Early Chanterelles
    #23524155 - 08/09/16 07:23 AM (7 years, 5 months ago)

So I was visiting a farmer's market at the coast and there was someone selling fresh chantrelles there.  I asked if they were local and the lady said yes.

So uhmmm.....  (and this was last month)....  does that make an extremely early fruiting or possibly and extremely late one?  I'm not really sure---  we usually look for them in September or about then.

we have had a cool summer this year.

This season has been very strange around me for many chanterelles. I'm still finding yellow chants which is late in the season, I'm just now finding black trumpets which is a month later than last year. I just found yellowfoot which is way early. I have found 4 different species all within a 1/2 mile of each other on the same day.

A friend sent me pics early last month of chanterelles from the coast range.  I'd say after this rain it would be a good idea to go for a hunt.

I'm thinking it's about that time, not really early anymore.  We had a couple days of rain including one day of pretty steady pouring.  So....  time to go and look

cheers

Chanterelle season is coming to a close here in northern Maine, maybe another week or 2 weather permitting.

December 1st we usually have 2-3 inches of frost in the ground and 6 inches of snow.

still too early.  All the spots I checked were empty, though I can smell the mycelium at work.

we did find a half dozen lobster mushrooms near the creek bed where running waters create a night time mist...

I'm thinking another week or two of moist weather and we will start to see the little beauties

I found 5 pounds of Chanterelle the first week of July in Washington along the Columbia River Gorge.

I have found chants on the Oregon and Washington coast in July for many years.  That is when they come up out there, they always have.

I'm not exactly sure, somewhere around 1300 ft.  There's a little spot around Duncan creek falls that holds it's own microclimate due to the spray from the falls and it's lush and green with fat translucent moss nearly year round while the rest of that area is dry and yellow brown.  It's not coastal though as was mentioned in the above comment.

cool that sounds like a similar spot we found a few lobsters this time.  Some falls up in the woods, they do have a nice micro climate
