Anyone know of an excellent magnification tool?

I don't think just zooming in on the subject in the video or photograph does justice as it simply muddies up the image. While the subject on the image appears clear, I just want an up close and personal look at it. Should I look into a magnification glass? What's the most powerful out there? Is there a tool I could attach on to my laptop screen to magnify the subject?

I'm confused. If you are viewing an image file on your laptop, then zooming in on the image will give you the most accurate magnification. If you leave a high resolution image (say higher resolution than your laptop screen) on low magnification and then physically magnify with a lense, you are just going to see the image at a lower resolution (the resolution of the screen) @which will "muddy up" the image even more than just zooming in with your image viewing software.
If you still wanna try this, a jewelers loupe is about all you need before you start seeing individual pixels.

Not those school magnifying glass but a jeweler's loupe?
Is there a free software I can use to focus or zoom in on the subject in the video? Not the entire video but a specific subject in the video?
I'd pay for a good software that can do what I'm seeking; an excellent magnifying or zooming software.

I still don't understand.
Unless you are talking about some sort of CSI "zoom and enhance" software that doesn't really exist.
Or do yu want something that recognizes a subject and follows that subject around the video?

I was just having trouble understanding your question, I've never worked with any software like that.
Sorry man!
