Does anyone know about how one would go about doing this? You know, besides copping an original 8 bit nintendo and the game itself. Can't you play the old classics on new nintendo consoles now?

Old school is the way to go imo.
I tried to play skyrim once and was peacefully appreciating the beautiful mountain landscape when a cavebear came out and ripped my face off... I decided to "explore" the cities after that. And it genuinely felt like i was hiding behind city walls from the horrible evils of the outside world. Not unfun, just not exactly what Id like to do...
Mario, sonic, and awesome possum are my go to games

The wii has the classics available. You can mod most modern consoles and add in a homebrew emulator to play NES and SNES games and shit too.

I find RPGs too much to think about when tripping but Earthbound fucking rules. I did play a consiterable amount of Chrono Trigger while tripping and was blazing through it haha. Doom when your twisted is fucking fun too

Same company that made journey also made flow and flower. Both cool games in a similar exploring style. Hohokum is really good too and beautiful.

Don't listen to these retro gaming noobs, get yourself a fine ass emulator (I recommend FCEUX or bizhawk), and download yourself a fine ass pack of NES roms. Preferably a nice NES rom collection torrent. All the NES games you want for free, and you can play them on your computer with any modern equipment you have (eg nice headphones, good USB controller, etc.). Plus emulators have save states, optional graphical enhancements, frameskip, slomo, and all sorts of other awesome features.
All the games you could ever want from your childhood are free and waiting for you, and all you have to do is to download the roms
I myself have what are called "full sets" (a collection of literally every piece of software ever released for a given system) for every system and computer released before 1990.

Weird. I saw that a new Metroid remake created by fans was being shut down by nintendo, started searching around about emulators for old nes games and found this recent thread. The original nes Metroid is my favorite so I had to find a way to play. I just posted to share a source of a game set I downloaded years ago that I've yet to use.

Geometry wars is rad as fuck. Shapes shooting shapes with shapes making more shapes from the explosion of shapes with sweet colors and cool repetitive music and heavy drops when shit gets intense, A+
