look women are oppressed and segregated in different ways everywhere across the globe, i dont think it's really a competition... tho i dont think islam is often great for them either.
while it's great you are concerned about women's rights, your tone is totally patronising here, you, some man (part of the same history of oppression) telling a woman what she should or shouldnt wear on her head, and what she should or shouldnt think about her own religion

I didn't tell her anything.
Here is some practical swimwear for Islamic women: http://www.eastessence.com/core/media/media.nl?id=16077&c=3374976&h=483ef707fb8cc7b28012
As to my tone, she is not a hero for wearing what millions of women wear. Where is the bravery?

The real heroes here are the long distance swimmers who swam through the raw sewage in that bay down there. That took real courage.

you basically imply she doesnt know any of that about her own religion
as i said, it's in reping those millions of women on the world stage when so many people hate them or are afraid of them and want to ban that clothing item is what makes it heroic imo

so
obviously bank robbers should disguise themselves as Muslim women !
yeah that sounds about right
it's a an even better idea than making old men, women, and kids take off their shoes at airports
seems funny folks argue about right and wrong in such a silly & arbitrary world

This is an OC thread, it isn't really a thread, more like a sort of a thread about something that may have happened. It's an illusory thread to be followed up by some whining in a thread that should have gone into Physical and Mental Health Forum. It's a pattern, it's a problem, it's got no solution. We've allowed this thing to fester, in fact we've encouraged its growth in a morbid fascination of a high school biology student doing dissection.

the bank example was used to make a point about double standards, and political correctness, not about banks.
surely that is obvious?
anything that can go under the guise of religion gets all kinds of unmerited benefits. Hence Scientology was turned into a religion by Ron Hubbard after it started out as Dianetics. Hence Lenny Bruce, the comedian, put on a priest's costume and did his thing. etc. Really it's not an obscure point. Banks happen to be an example of a public space where people are expected to have their faces exposed to cameras. After the London subway bombings etc, I'm sure many are even more concerned about this issue in Europe.
Invent a silly costume, call it part of your religion, and you can get away with wearing it anywhere regardless or whether others are allowed to do so. The Sikh's white turbans do not interfere with facial identification, which in this world in public spaces in unfortunately at times necessary. To pretend this isn't the case due to political correctness in regards to religion is surely misguided.

Perhaps this is where part of the confusion comes from, (see image) (they have so many different costumes & countries & expectations)
But Western political correctness about religion compounds the problem, of getting people to adapt to the country they are in within reason. There are no sandstorms in Paris, or Shieks trying to steal pretty daughters for their harem in Chicago. That terrorism is associated with the Muslim religion goes way beyond, the fears intelligent people may have about cops doing racial profiling. In this case there is no doubt about a correlation. This is of course unfortunate for those of them who are sane and peaceful, but for them to adopt an arrogant attitude toward their new countries, helps no one.

no it wasnt, particularly because those 'double standards' are not relevant to fencing in the olympics

public spaces should be accessible to the public. if a large portion of them require certain headwear then the public spaces should allow that.. off the top of my head why not finger print instead? working something out is not hard.

people can wear silly costumes in public spaces regardless of religion. are they going to ban Furries from trains too?
and do you really think we shouldnt have the freedom to wear whatever the hell we like? that's some 1984 shit

i fail to see how seeing a person's face makes you any more safe?. can people wear make up? can they have facial surgery? can they wear putty on their nose or a mask or anything else?
do you really want a world of perpetual surveillance?

That's the only thing that bothers me about emigrating there at the end of the year. I'm already a citizen but have only lived there for a year. And I'm gonna be moving to the backwater middle of nowhere, and I know the racism is gonna be rife. I can see myself ending up in some heated arguments about it...
