Yellowfoot chanterelle confirmation.

I'm reasonably sure these are yellowfoot chanterelle but it's my first time finding them. Found beside a stream in an area with many rotting logs covered in moss. Area was very wet so I'm thinking they may be Craterellus lutescens but the caps seem more grey-ish. So I'm thinking Craterellus tubaeformis. They were growing out of the moss. Stem is hollow and they smell somewhat fruity but not as much as black trumpets do. (Sorry for the photo quality, my good camera just ran out of batteries)
Thanks for the help. It's been a strange late summer season here. I'm finding yellow chanterelles pretty late in the year and in places I've never seen them before and black trumpets are a month behind last year. Then I find these in a spot I've walked past probably 20 times in the last 2 years.

Craterellus tubaeformis looks plausible but the hymenium seems white rather than grey. Maybe Craterellus lutescens?
It's definitely one of the two (as opposed to Cantharellus, though these species used to be in Cantharellus).

Thank you! They are more grey it's just the crappy tablet pics. Psyched to try them!

I really like them. Found some last winter. Had some with some pasta and sauce of some variety. Very nice. Looking forward to finding more this year.

I have found Craterellus tubaeformis and lots clearly had grey hymenia. Still though, I found, assuming they were all one species, that there was some variation and it wasn't obvious on every specimen.

That makes sense. I can't really shed light on that since it's my first time finding them, but now that I know they're out there I'm going to try to find more! If I can find more in the same area I'll pay closer attention to what they're growing on (or around) and try to narrow it down.

All of the ones I found were in (ever so) slightly less dense areas in a deciduous forest, in moss, on the floor. They were not in well-trodden areas, but slightly more secluded ones.

I see obvious differences between these two, but is it easy when looking at lots of them?
I am not meaning to be confrontational, I actually don't know.

Where i am located C.lutescens are found in pine forests and C.tubeaformis both in pine and deciduous forests. Once you find a good spot you will most likely find huge quantities of them.

I looked in similar areas this summer, that I found them, for Cantharellus, but with no luck so far. Do you think I'm looking in the right sort of place?

i understand your question as i know a lot of people that confuse this two species the first time they find them. although they share some features they are really easy to tell apart. Even when looking from above. Both C.lutescens and C.tubeaformis are quite common where i am located and usually i collect considerable amounts of both so maybe it just a matter of practise.

by Chantarellus you mean C.cibarius? You are probably looking on the right sort of spots but that doesnt mean that they grow there... actually i know some location where chantarellus and craterellus grow side by side but on other ones they dont... Also, the fruiting period is a little bit different. C. cibarius is more of thermophilic species whereas C. lutescens and C.tubeaformis are mainly winter species. although all 3 like very humid habitats.

Yeah, I found the C. tubaeformis in december, but I've been looking for Cantharellus cibarius for the last couple of months in the same spots, but not found anything.
I will keep trying!

Couple of years ago i stayed in london for half an year doing an internship at UCL and although i did not have time to go outside of london to look for mushrooms i did some research, and from what i remember C.cibarius season starts mid/late july. I had marked some promising spots with decidious trees and Abies...now i do not remember the name of these woods/parks.
Good luck and i believe that now is the right time to go look for cibaius

The first couple of months i stayed at a friends place between Dollis Hill and willesden green subway station and the rest of the time i rented a room in Mornington crescent. It was very difficult to find decent accommodation for such a short period, so i just decided to pay a little bit more for the room and live near the center and therefore save on time and transportation. I really enjoyed my stay there although if i intended to stay for a longer period of time it would be mandatory to find a better place to stay, both in terms of conditions and price...

Ah, North London. I live in the East. The rent where I am isn't so much compared to other parts. I imagine Mornington Crescent being quite expensive. Camden is a very trendy area.

it is indeed quite expensive... but for such a short period of time i think it may have been the right decision (to live near the center), this way i was able to take more from what london offers. Also i was within walking distance from UCL and several cool spots such as Camden, Reagent“s park... Probably next year i will be back for some months and although i am excited about it i am also a little bit stressed about the accommodation issue. But it will be ok for sure.
cheers

Its true but I dont think it is much different from what it was 2 years ago. I believe that at the time one pound was around 1.25 euros... by the way, good luck with the brexit issue, unfortunately i think this was a very very bad decision...lets hope for the best

It should level out over time. We were alright before and hopefully we'll be okay after, but things will take time to settle. Let's see what happens.

Thanks for the clarification and the pics Cotafilipe. The difference is easily seen side by side like that.
I found these also not that far away. It's been such a weird season. I didn't think these were supposed to fruit at the same time as the yellowfoots.
