Pine vs Oak sawdust * 1
    #23520972 - 08/08/16 02:02 AM (7 years, 6 months ago)

So after having at least some yeild on pine (as it was all that was available) and then picking up that Crazy Kmart deal- I decided to drop a jar of Maitake, and a jar of BSOY2 into grain bags and then transferred each bag into 2 pine and 2 sawdust. BSOY2 immeadiately attacked both but the growth was obviously greatly enhanced within the oak as opposed to the pine. The Maitake just started to recover and colonize the sawdust- at this point there is no difference on them.

How was the pine prepared? Was it saturated and the inhibitory resins removed?
You don't have to remove them, but you will get slower growth.

Pine requires some processing before its fully usable.
Either by age or by manual removal.

My myco bro!!!! I am so stoked to see a bunch of us here in near similar positions dialing in our shit and making our way into the commercial cultivation world! Even with the pro's here helping us out like Gr0wer and Drake, I think we have a great strong community starting with us "newer" growers, this is including Chejrd and ferather.

Go us! Hopefully we'll be the pros one day helping others. That was a crazy Kmart deal, too bad it's gone. I'm liking all the comparing to pine and softwood threads popping up as of late, as hardwood and soybeans are hard to come by. Hopefully corn cob pellets will work out too. Thanks for the info!

Awesome sauce. I believe wood is the future of edible mushrooms.

Well I've had some interesting developements. As you will see- the Maitake conquered the pine before the oak did- and the BSOY2 Iysters started primordia before the oak. Reminder that all 4 bags each came from the same wedge (<Maitake was LC to afar first> wedge-qt jar- grain bag- 4 sawdust bags).

The BSOY2 primordia could have formed for a myriad of reasons- so I will wait until harvest to actually make any statements- but the Maitake!! Holy hell! That's a huge difference!

Hey Marty - can't wait to send you some of this Maitake to see if you have similar results!

Excellent, that backs up my findings. It seems oleoresin's are the key.

Was that oleoresin potent pine aged or recycled?
Also how much water content did you use?

I'll upload a picture of the brand of pellets I used when I get off work, not sure off the top of my head.

And I used Lipa's Tek- so 6 cups pellets to 7 cups water.

That's pretty much the same stuff im using except its US sourced.
Recycled and pre heated, 100% pine wood, same colour too.

You will loose potency with age, good for 4 years.
Then its pretty much normal wood pellets.

I think I see brain formation starting!

Edited 2/6/17 to add that the pine brained quite well but I got overwhelmed with life and never fruited it and mold killed my poor baby. Here is the oak. Still looking good but jo brains.
