Here I will share
government auction pcs set of 4 or 5 (with old win7 os) 100 video card and pci e extension 60 server case / comp tower 25 screws & drill grinder something to cut the metal power tool for mods artic coolant 15 bucks sata cords long enough... 5 dollars I made usb extenders from old phone cords so you can do that thats not bad... order some usb males and females EDIT: use cat 5 cable works a lot better... Note: if your motherboard is 24pin mini or regular you'll have to convert the mini to regular for the power supply like in the picture... I cut one from an old psu to the converter piece ordered because they dont have it set that way... and so you dont have to cut your new power supply cord at all :Note Ive had no problems doing this but just be thorough is what I did.

Once you got everything I would learn linux and then possibly throwback win7 once you got comfy. do it for yourself or even one of your family members Folds good too one does about 2/5 of what I could do if I had em all on. 3 x 460s and a HD6850.
I did some cutting with the old case to put into the server cases. Not ideal those cases are heavy but it fell that way.
This was my first gaming pcs actually. I think I was getting into gaming with my an nvidia 6800gr or maybe 5800 those are just like onboard sorta...
And if you were considering vid cards exactly like mine 460 I would go higher something that uses the new api vulcan for nvidia. and Radeon is solid but the 460s easily defeats the hd6850 so thats a definite upgrade they match up to 7900s or something to radeon. And also with the vulcan series cards you might want to think of a better base system, more ram, processor... I found one on craigslist has some shorts on the motherboard cheap deal only deal ive seen . 50 bucks for 4 core amd processor (i believe?) 4gigs ram maybe 8 actually but its the brand named sticks... Had start up problems but with linux I could leave it on. And I havnt yet put windows on it but I'm planning to so I can play some medal of honor . I should definitely upgrade the video card since the 460 is the bottleneck on it, i believe so.

I cannot follow what you are trying to say. I feel like you are leaving out large chunks of a paragraph and I'm only getting snippets of it. WTF is this post actually about? Are you trying to guide someone on building a gaming PC? What the shit is this methramble about.

I'm trying really hard to write a nice reply to assist you but no matter how much I write, or how I write it, I sound like a complete asshole. So I am refraining. If this is meant to be a guide for people, you have to write it as if the reader has NO idea about ANYTHING you are talking about, and you have to teach them. Can't tell if this is about building a gaming PC (barely any specific hardware listed, which is the MOST important part about a PC build), or if this is just about doing some case mods, or if this is about learning linux, throwing back beers with win7 when we get comfy (netflix and chill win7?!?) then something about 'this' folds clothes better then something else.
See, asshole
;(
I tried.
I quit.

i dont know I cant see it but what else are people suppose to do with these if they got em or are thinking about getting them?
I know its hard to skim through but if you had the machine it should make half the sense I was trying to make.

I wanted to say something but, I don't even know what to say.
I'm looking at that picture and I can't figure it out. That case is not compatible with the motherboard, and whilst I respect the effort you went to make a 24 pin ATX power connector to whatever the hell is on that dell non-ATX motherboard, it's just such a headfuck.
You might be able to play games on it but it's such a headfuck.

Anyone who's new to building PC's I recommend this tool, it filters components to make sure they are compatible. From there, as you get more knowledge and confidence, you can work in secondhand components, if you want to.
You should benchmark it, it'd be interesting to see what sort of performance it is for the cost.

When you say 'people have these' are you referring to a PC? Or specifically a government auction PC? I imagine every auction is widely different then the last and the type of hardware you get at one would range from ultra cheap minimal diskless terminal nodes, to upper end server hardware. That was sort my point with you didn't put any info about what the hardware actually is?
Gaming machine needs good video cards, no matter what. I cant imagine government auction machines having gaming video cards either, but I could be wrong. They also need other decent hardware, the right kind of PCI-E slot, etc etc.

Yea but these older gaming video cards rather than onboard.
I'm not really talking to an experienced gamer with a setup already. Only one that wants to have a gaming machine option.
Truthfully you spend money and blow it off rather then learn the steps with modest expenses isnt harmful

Looks a little cramped, but hey, if it fits, it should work.

once you got it rolling it's perfect
edit: for instance you may have some trouble with the graphics card getting in the way oh the heatsink but just use some good improvising techniques and just lyck should be good!
this is a good startin point in learning linux + gamin so I wouldn't shy pass this if it were me instead of me buying the computer that I did and just kind of laze away from my burnin interest as a gamer........
all we use windows for is roblox in this household really. And that was known to work at one point but that game doesnt look all that gud anyway
my only problem with the couple that I added graphic cards to is this one where I have trouble with the heatsink and I just gotta find another way to get that thing to stay on and blowing. shouldnt be hard. So I can't really move the system.
But its funny cause I picked up one of these server cabinets giant thing, too big shouldnt have bought it, and its housed in it so its not goin to be budgin -just gotta fix it.

All right I'll update this with news
it didnt work out!
but only cause the power supply attachment to the motherboard (which I was brief upon) to put it short a couple wires from the 24 connector burnt away. I gifted these pcs and I had no idea where the burning smell was from .
Another symptom would be the motherboard would need to be switched out, / shorted - but i havent further tested those to see exactly what they were.
But anyways these were tested with a nvidia gtx 460. which uses two power 4 pins tho thats directly from the psu. im not sure if it wouldve mattered.
i think i might've got the wiring wrong but i only did the wiring twice and always used those...........
but anyways I may keep doing this once I can just have no need for it for once unless i actually do get it....
so i understand where the upset could be felt
though the positive from it is just solid gaming on classics so eh whatevers fun and safe
