2 species of black trumpets. Can someone confirm?
    #23519807 - 08/07/16 06:25 PM (7 years, 6 months ago)

I have found many of the species Craterellus cornucopioides, which is what I would usually call a black trumpet. Today, not from from my black trumpet spot I also found this similar mushroom. It's lighter colored and more likely to grow in clumps. I'm fairly sure it's Craterellus fallax. I can't think of what else it could be, but I'd like a confirmation. Thanks!

Pics: fallax on it's own. fallax and cornucopioides, fallax growing, cornucopioides growing.

I'd like to think I'm smart enough to realize how much knowledge I don't have.

Unless you did some hunting in Europe, you didn't find any Craterellus cornucopioides.

The smooth ones are Craterellus fallax and the ones with veins are Craterellus cinereus.

Thanks for the clarification Alan. I can't believe I've had them backwards in my head for years.
