24 hospitalized in drug overdose at Ohio music festival

Source.
(CNN)Twenty-four people attending a music festival in Ohio were hospitalized Saturday from drug overdoses, according to the Richland County Sheriff's office. No one lost consciousness and everyone seems to be OK, Sheriff's Capt. Donald Zehner said Saturday afternoon.
CNN affiliate WEWS reported that some festivalgoers consumed ultra-potent marijuana candies.

The initial sheriff's department report did not say what caused the onset of illnesses but patients were treated with Narcan, said Nikki Workman, spokeswoman for OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. Narcan is used to counteract overdoses of opiates such as heroin or oxycodone.
Paramedics initially believed the overdoses were caused by opiates but when victims did not respond to the Narcan they had the candies tested and they came back positive for a high dosage of THC, the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, WEWS reported.
Zehner said late Saturday that the culprit was still classified as an "unknown substance," and the investigation was ongoing.
Synthetic cannabinoids can be anywhere from two to 100 times more potent than natural THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This general unpredictability is due to the unknown chemical composition of these drugs, which, the National Institute on Drug Abuse noted, may change from batch to batch.
Fifteen synthetic cannabinoids are classified as Schedule I controlled substances. The Drug Enforcement Administration's designation of Schedule I means the drugs have no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse. To hamper law enforcement, producers of "fake weed" continually change the chemical compound, thereby exploiting a legal loophole and drug test detection.
The overdose victims Saturday were attending the EST FEST Music Festival in Butler, Zehner said. Butler is about 90 miles southwest of Cleveland.
The sheriff's drug task force is investigating the cause of the multiple overdoses and so far there have been no arrests, Zehner said.
All vehicles had been searched before entering the festival grounds, he said.
EST is an acronym for "Everybody Stands Together" and the two-day music festival is in its third year, according to festival organizer James McMillan.

The first article I read said it was heroin. Maybe the next article will be less misleading.

I wouldn't doubt it. Potent edibles are known to make people flip out. High doses of THC with no CBD to go with it can cause extreme paranoia, anxiety, and hallucinations.

Lol yeah like jwh-018 and edibles are the same thing. How strong could it even have been? Thc obv wont hurt you, but a strong edible trip can be weird, its still not an emergency situation IMO. Thc has a ceiling effect, even if some edibles can get you quite toasty

lol, I hate people who can't handle safe drugs like thc and lsd, then give it a bad rap. If you look at that picture, it says 100mg on the labeled nerd rope candy. That isn't even a strong edible.. Then they go on to talk about noids for no reason. This stuff pisses me off.

Do they really just give narcan to any drug overdose with no idea what the drug was? If so that's fucking stupid. Also, they said no one lost consciousness. If so then why did they give people narcan?

IDK who you met, but I assure you that there are plenty of kids in Ohio who can eat as much or more acid than you can and still be alright. Don't you tell me this town ain't got no heart when I can hear it beat out loud.

It's used as a "better safe than sorry" measure. If you don't have opiates in your system, narcan won't do anything (as far as medical science knows, at least) and if you do happen to have opiates in your system, it might save your life.
Seems like some anti-drug fear mongering to me. It's like how you hear about some random college kids that go on a trip to colorado, get higher than they've ever been, and check into the ER. Of course, the news never reports the part where the doctors make sure its only weed, laugh, and just leave you there to sleep it off (assuming you have insurance that can be charged for it).

I don't get it either...seems like this article is trying to talk about several different things at once, or trying to relate them to one another some how.
Even more ridiculous...if you click on the link to the article's source/page, there's a video to go along with the "story". It starts out with a clip from a classic video most of us have probably seen, from the show "COPS", of a naked dark skinned dude trying to get away from the cops, punching through a fence and getting sprayed with pepper spray and not reacting to pepper spray at all.
While that footage is playing, CNN makes the claim that the guy had smoked some sort of synthetic cannabinoid before going on this "rampage"....but I remember seeing this same exact footage on the show "COPS" a long long time ago, like literally over a decade ago. Long before the whole synth-noid thing became widespread/popular and a problem....and CNN is trying to make it look like this scene just happened recently.
....It's pretty obvious to me, and it was even stated on the show COPS IIRC, that the naked dark skin dude was on PCP . It's a classic/cliche PCP rage/rampage situation, but in this video on CNN they say the guy had smoked some synth-noid .
I randomly just typed in "black guy PCP" into youtube, and it's the first video to pop up....and it was uploaded to youtube 10 years ago.
Watch the video about the story on the CNN page, and here's the original clip from COPS...
So a couple dozen people "OD", but they're still conscious.
They get shot up with Narcan.
The news story talks about cannabis edibles possibly being the culprit (understandable, people with low tolerance, or even with tolerance, can get incredibly lifted off cannabis when eaten and it can make for an uncomfortable & very anxious high)
Then the news story goes off on a tangent, with no relation to the cannabis edible or what actually happened, and starts talking about synthetic cannabinoids.
And the video to go along with this story starts out with a guy on PCP, but CNN spins it off as a sitation that just occured recently because of synth-noids.

So what is it?
It tested as THC but they say it's still unknown..?....So why all the blabble about synth-noids if the substance is still "unknown"

I once had an overwhelming experience smoking oil some 7-8 years ago. I couldn't sit anymore, it was too exhausting. I had to lie down and I probably looked like I had done heroin.

LOL I went to a festival in ohio and people were getting down. They wore signs around their necks with what they had for sale and if they saw the cops just turned their signs around.
I saw someone sitting on a big rock next to one of the main paths and he had a jar of nug on the ground. He was distracted talking to someone for a second and the police came sneaking up on a golf cart. The cop reached down, grabbed the jar, and yelled "GO! GO! GO!" to the cop driving the cart and they jetted off with his jar of nugs.

I hit a large bong right next to a couple of cops at an Ohio festival a few years ago. Was actually a heavy metal festival, sort of like how the one in this article was actually a rap festival.
Almost made me paranoid, but then I realized no one gave a fuck about anything but the music.

What the fuck. In America. The worst part of America, with the most draconian drug laws of the western world. Ohians must be stupid. The cops as well. Or is it usual for druggy rednecks to beat up cops for stealing their drugs?

Where in his post did it say anything about beating up cops?
Ohio has some amazing spots.
Columbus is an awesome city.
Yellow springs is incredible.
Only half the state is draconian. We just legalized medicinal marijuana.
We aren't florida.
I happen to have all of my teeth.
Recreational marijuana is decriminalized.
Ketamine is a misdemeanor.
LSD only merits the lowest felony until you have more than ten doses, and even then you can drug court.
Hell, some dude on the swim team at stanford raped a girl behind a dumpster and is only doing 6 months in the county ( I don't agree with that sentencing )
We are far from one of the most draconian states.
