So, should we ban immigrants from Catholic countries because some Catholics engage in child abuse? Cause the premise of this thread is that we shouldn't let Muslims in because some Muslims engage in child abuse.

I've actually done some reading on the FLDS. They are a very freaky bunch. Do some Google searches and read stories about them from the local stations and papers, it's a real rabbit hole. Their sect is extremely predatory yet basically untouchable because of their cohesion in the face of intrusion by government authorities. Every so often, a young woman will try to escape with her children, only to have them kidnapped, her possession vandalized, death threats etc. with no recourse to prosecution. Instead of just having a few suspects pulled from an impartial community with witnesses, you have a whole congregation of hundreds of suspects, each of whom has no interest in cooperating with authorities, many of whom would die to protect their sick and twisted lifestyle. It's just a nonstarter. They form human walls to resist the entry of police into their communities.
A full investigation of these types of crimes would require paramilitary operations to be carried out against civilians and nobody wants another Waco. So they just keep farming little girls for sex in impunity. And we look the other way, we protect them with our indifference as we demonize the outsiders. If we ignore this abomination endemic within our borders, we are no better than mob wives.
Why is this not part of the national discussion? They shouldn't be downplayed, they have tens of thousands of followers and they launder millions upon millions of dollars, all so that they can continue to force themselves onto masses of little girls. Like, dude... backwards-ass middle easterners arent the problem here in the US... Their shitty little boats can barely take them across the Mediterranean, for fucks sake.

Well the problem is, if they are citizens who were born here, you can't do anything about it. You can't deport them, because no other country will accept them. If criminals are born here, you just have to deal with it, Muslim or Catholic or whatever.
Immigrants on the other hand, we have the choice to deport.

Here's the thing K, if you wanna start a thread about dealing with Christian pedophiles, and how we should hang them, I'll be right with ya with an "amen"
But don't try to obfuscate the very real issue of Muslims and their miscreant behaviors by pointing to other bad behaviors. It's ignorant and idiotic. Muslims are a very real threat to this country. That's a fact, you don't solve that problem by pointing to other problems that have virtually nothing to do with the issues being discussed.

You're demagoguing. Every group has miscreants, but you are intent on painting an entire group as miscreants based on the actions of some of the members. Why don't you show us the stats where Muslims commit more rape or even more crime than other religions or than Americans in general.
You think it's unfair to make generalizations about Catholics based on the actions of a few Catholics, even though they are the leaders of the church, meanwhile trying to make the case that we shouldn't be allowing Muslims into the country because a 7 year old touched a 5 year old inappropriately .

The issues are precisely the same. We are talking about a child-grooming pedophile ring, organized by religious fundamentalists whose views on sex and relationships contradict modern norms for their stone-age nostalgia.
The difference is that rings such as these exist on our shores and are very well established, very well protected and mostly disregarded by the general population. All of the Abrahamic religions have the potential to foster this nostalgia for stone-age family structures. It is not unique to Islam and it is nothing but demagoguery to suggest that it is.
This thread asks us to ignore the fact that that sexual exploitation of children is endemic among the insular Mormon community within our borders, not to mention many other insular sects of fundamentalist Christians (and Jews!), and to instead focus our fear and anger upon people who aren't here and likely never will be, and toward American citizens who are fully assimilated into their communities.
Blow.

“It is scandalous that the UN chose a country that has beheaded more people this year than ISIS to be head of a key human rights panel,” said UN Watch executive director Hillel Neuer. “Petro-dollars and politics have trumped human rights.”
“Saudi Arabia has arguably the worst record in the world when it comes to religious freedom and women’s rights, and continues to imprison the innocent blogger Raif Badawi,” Neuer added.
“This UN appointment is like making a pyromaniac into the town fire chief, and underscores the credibility deficit of a human rights council that already counts Russia, Cuba, China, Qatar and Venezuela among its elected members.”
According to UNHRC documents obtained by UN Watch, Saudi Arabia was chosen to head a 5-member group of ambassadors, known as the Consultative Group, which has the power to select applicants from around the world for more than 77 positions dealing with country-specific and thematic human rights mandates.
“The UN often describes these experts as the ‘crown jewels’ of its Human Rights Council, yet the world body only undermines their legitimacy by picking a fundamentalist theocracy that oppresses women and minorities to preside over the experts’ appointment.”
