Anyone study lucid dreaming/astral projection?

I had an odd experience last night that I can only describe as semi out of body. I've learned to turn my hypnagogic state into somewhat of a meditation, in which I'm observing these pre-sleep thoughts rather than getting lost in them. Last night, as I drifted into deep hypnagogia, I stood up on my bed, only to snap out of it and realize I hadn't moved at all. And then, for the next ten seconds or so, I felt as though I was rapidly sitting up and then laying back down over and over (almost like sit-ups?), again realizing I hadn't moved. Anyone ever have an experience like this?

Ever heard of WILD or Yoga Nidra? Basically it involves doing what you've done. It's pretty common to roll out of body during these states. Another fun thing I like to do, is expand out into the room, where my consciousness fills the space of the room, very liberating. There are so many fun ways to experiment, learn, grow, or just fool around with hypnagogic states. Say you want to work on a project, just create it there, place particular laws down, and work on it whilst fully immersed, it's a thought responsive environment, so you make your own limitations. So yeah, lots of experience with it. Loads of fun, no?

People experienced with it would tell you to be cautious as a newcomer with no knowledge of the inner workings of the Astral Plane.
Yoga Nidra or Dream Yoga is a practice used to develop the skills necessary to travel the Astral Plane. Gnosticism is at the forefront of such practices, and you should research that first before delving into the subject.

Yeah dude I fucked with it when I was in my teens and never got anywhere. Then until I started meditating I would get sleep paralyses sometimes.
If you don't have a purpose I'd just go and fuck off with vibrating on the Astral Plane

Just started reading Dreams of Awakening: Lucid Dreaming And Mindfulness Of Dream And Sleep by Charlie Morley.
Looks good, slight Buddhist twist to it.

Definitely a beautiful, strange, endless and unfathomable place, but sacred too, and when you deal with the divine and sacred you have to realise the kind of level you've taken yourself to, and how your mind may be affected by your experiences.
I don't think you get 'invited' there, generally in sleep, without fulfilling certain conditions.

What 'dangers' could you outline for the newcomer in terms of things to be cautious about? I've had many opportunities to project in my life, in a full waking state, but I've never gone ahead and done it because I always get nervous.
