Hen of the woods harvest. Pic included

So I found this at a campground after a heavy rain. I was wondering if anyone had any tips and tricks to cleaning, cutting, storing, eating this hunk of goodness. Estimate weight is roughly 28-30lbs

I also found some of these beauties growing under some type of conifer.

Looks more like Meripilus sumstinei, the black staining polypore.

Still edible, not as good as a hen. They have a great meaty flavor. But a real stringy, chewy texture.
I'd suggest long, slow, wet cooking. I've also had success making them into jerky.
You'll only want the outer few inches of each frond. The "core" will be super tough and solid (could still make a stock/broth with it)
