I've read that about Maitake as well but it seemed counter intuitive to me, in my experience 12 on 12 off met or beat general colonization times. The next run I do I will run 1 grain spawn bag dark and 1 12 on 12 off, and do the same once spawned, to see if I can put a pin in this once and for all.
I'm not sure if my living room light is strong enough for the mycellium to sense, but if so then they are close to a 12/12 light cycle. Sunlight peaks through the blinds too and hits the bags.

I've decided to just leave the bags be. The mycellium is just growing slow as hell, but maybe that's normal

Little confused, are you growing in 100% dark? Or still 12/12 light and dark?
See here page 48.

I'm leaving them sitting on a table in my living room, so they it's like 18 light / 6 dark.

The spawn will morph?
I'm working on the mini greenhouse right now. The local hydro shop is going out of business, so everything was 40% off. I got this atmosphere controller and t5 light at a great price, plus a couple cool mists from savers at an even greater price, and an ultrasonic humidifier at the best price. I also have a grow tent that can fit the mini greenhouse inside and some 4" fans and ducting.
grow tent mini greenhouse atmosphere controller t5 light cool mists ultrasonic humidifier 4" fans ducting
I work all day so I want to create something simple, yet automated and worry free. I've had problems with flies before so I was thinking of setting the the greenhouse inside of the grow tent, pushing air into the grow tent with the 4" fans (maybe with a screen over the inlet to block flies) and then setting the humidifiers in the grow tent between the walls of the outside of the greenhouse and inside of the grow tent. I could pipe in air from the outside the greenhouse, but yet it would still be coming from a sealed space (grow tent).
I was thinking the fresh air being pumped into the grow tent would create positive pressure and air in fresh air exchange when it came to the greenhouse environment. I got the atmosphere controller so I could use that tweak the humidifier, fans, lights, etc.
How does this sound?

Sounds pretty good! Check out My Greenhouse Build for some comparison. A little bit different but may give you some ideas.

Thanks it was a good thread to read, I like the advice Gr0wer gives. I'm rereading what it says in The mushroom cultivar, and feel like what I have planned fits with what is written in there. I plan too much sometimes and should just get building but can't looking up more info to be 100% sure

Hey man I noticed it's been a couple months since your last post in your build. How is it going by the way with your grow?

Your WL tek is interesting. I'm just curious if using newspaper strips could work or perhaps a way low labor/cost way to pelletize newspaper. I can source pretty much unlimited newspaper/office paper in my city for free. Plus wood shavings at cheap prices and in bulk. These two as a substrate would be awesome if it could deliver good enough results.

Check out some of my other recent posts. I currently have 4 bags of BSOY2 Oysters in fruiting. Maitake pinning. Enoki colonizing (using SloppyJoseph's Big Gulp Tek). Reishi's consolidating. Cordyceps contaminating (plays TAPS), and 1 012A Oyster consolidating. I have two BSOY2 grain spawn bags ready to go which will make 4 sawdust bags each.
