Are poppy pods that have dried naturally still good for opium tea?

I mean the whole poppy plant has dried up while still standing in the earth. Will pods from those plants still contain opium?
Thanks for you help.

pull them up, roots and all, wash off and cut up with sissors to small pieces bring water to an almost boil but not full boil and set it in the water, till the water evaps to about a glass full all brown like tea add honey/lemon and slam it, it works wonders. the pods have the highest volumn but its throughout the plant and youll get all the effects of it through tea providing you have enough plants and there the right ones .

Yes they will.
Start with one pod and work your way up.
If one doesn't make you feel anything try two or three if two or three doesn't make you feel anything take more and so on.
I wouldn't use the leaves or roots personally. There's almost nothing there and they make the tea a lot nastier.

Don't use moldy pods, though.

Thanks, I was wondering about that. I left some pods in a plastic bag and they got moldy. What a shame.

Stems have a tad of alkaloids but it's way too little to be worth it in my mind. Keep to pods and increase dosage slowly.
I'd make one batch out of all pods that look alright and then divide the volume by the number of pods. That way you know what volume represents 1 pod dose and you know that trough out that batch you have consistent potency. The greatest risk with opium tea is the variation of alkaloid content. Remember that they vary a lot plant to plant.

Are we talking of normal poppies or Papaver somniferum I thought a full Papaver somniferum pod would be dangerous but I'm working on hear say I'm just about to grow these so any actual fact would be great

My knowledge of poppies is limited but I believe somniferum is the main source for opium, not sure what a "normal poppy" is.

Yes, they will contain active alkaloids.
You can cut the stem (straw) 6-8 inches below the pod, grind that up too.
I would say to get a feel for what you're working with, start with 3 pods if they're large. When I used to buy pods years ago, I would grind up 7-10 jumbo pods per cup of tea, but I have always had a high tolerance to opiates.
I think 3 is a good starting point though.

Oh right I thought the active ingredients that make up opium where found in lesser amounts in all poppies
