Getting off of Vyvanse

Hey Everyone,
I have been on ADD stimulants since about 5th grade (I am 24 now). I am currently on Vyvanse (~50mg/day) and have been on it for probably 5 years. It has been very beneficial to me in some aspects (graduated from arguably the top petroleum engineering school in the world and got a good engineering job.). But in the process I have developed tendancies of overthinking, anxiety, high blood pressure, dehydration, and other negative side effects.
I have tried getting off of Vyvanse last winter. I weaned off for about 2 weeks and was off of it for another 2 weeks. I was very upset by the way my workouts changed. It was suddenly very hard to find motivation to workout or push myself during my workouts. (working out has always been my escape so this was very worrisome to me).
After doing more research on the bad side effects of Vyvanse, I am ready to try it again. But, this time I am going to take it slower. I searched the forum here for similar posts but could not find any. I figured there are many more out there who may be in a similar situation to me so I wanted to make a thread and keep it updated with how my process is going to provide information to others.
My next appointment to refill my vyvanse is in 2 weeks so I will ask to lower my dose. Ill let yall know how it goes!

from someone wishing he had amphs in order to study (occasionally) and be super motivated, please tell me the negative health benefits and possibly a pro's and con's list of sorts subjective to your experience

I'd say just start lowering your dose by halves weekly. So the first week cut ur normal dose in half and take that all week, then the week after that take half of that. U will feel slightly more tired/lethargic but nothing crazy
Maybe get some yerba mate or green tea for when u aren't feeling tip-top and just sip on that, but you have to be disciplined in your tapering off
and if u aren't feeling good and motivated maybe take some kratom(white vein) it helps me feel good/motivated occasionally without that super addictive side

**Keep in mind my side effects have changed and evolved over the years of being on ADD meds.**
CONS:
WELL, for starters, After I take it every morning it's like starting a time bomb. Within the next 30min to 1 hr I will have to shit my pants lol. So I have to make sure I am near a bathroom. That alone is a pretty shitty side effect (excuse the pun).
It also gives me pretty high anxiety and causes me to wayyyy overthink things to a very irrational extent on a daily basis. This leads to more anxiety and trouble feeling accepted.
It also causes me to have to urinate very often. On top of that, it dehydrates me so Im very thirsty all the time. Its like a never ending spiral of thirst and having to pee. Because of this I always have to think of if there will be a bathroom nearby if I want to go try something new.
It also has sexual side effects that no one mentions. It makes me orgasm much faster than when Im not on it.
Also, I have to eat all the time when Im on it. If I dont, I will start to get lightheaded and hot/cold sweats. So ive always got to have food on me.
When Im working out, it can cause my blood pressure to get dangerously high.
These are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Although, I do not know which of these effects you would encounter with only taking it intermittently.
PROS:
It allowed me to be very successful in school (although ill never know if I really needed it because my parents put me on ADD meds at such a young age).
I can focus in on stuff really well and be very productive. (but it can also make me overthink things and not get anything done at all)
I guess faster orgasms could be a pro for some people? lol
I do think it makes my metabolism significantly faster. But I also workout 5 days a week and eat very healthy so the vyvanse is not the reason for my healthy physique.
It gives me energy for my workouts (but again, I dont know how my workouts would have been if I had never been on ADD meds).

so I have never taken an amph, but I will take guarana, theanine, ceylon cinnamon and just straight up capsuled ginger root in order to every once in a while improve my cognitive functions, these are the ones which seem to work for me at least
I think theanine is good because it dosen't cause any physical discomfort to stop taking, but I only take these things 3 times a week max. I have taken guarana all week before and you get a huge nasty headache if you stop abruptly
Guarana similarly makes me need to defecate about 30 mins after I take it.
What are the health risks though?

Daily high blood pressure is a silent killer. And chronic dehydration.
Disclaimer: Dont take my word for the health risks. I would do some of your own research on it. I feel like doctors haven't done enough long term research on ADD meds.

yeah, i guess being on anything every day is bad for health, i used to take melatonin to sleep for 2 years straight but i got off by tapering

Did you experience withdraws from getting off of it? Or just couldn't sleep? I take melatonin sometimes.

Not really, It was 50% a psychological thing i think, just my body bing conditioned to think "i need this little pill to fall asleep" I could still sleep it just took a lot longer to fall asleep and I would stay up later before i'd fall asleep
Melatonin is really safe in my personal experience tho it's even said to have some radio protective effects, and it stopped making me drowsy after about a month

Some people get *CRAZY* dreams on melatonin. Mine are generally more vivid and more memorable, but I haven't had a bad dream from melatonin. One of my old roommates would end up with constant unrelenting nightmares all night that he would remember for half the next day if he took melatonin. He wouldn't wake up during the night, but on one occasion he sleep-yelled. Didn't take melatonin again after that.
As for vyvanse/any stimulant use, just get in the habit of overhydrating. I drink more than a gallon of water a day, even though I only take stimulants on special occasions (exams). Habit started from the occasional stims. I've taken 54mg vyvance twice, and both times I became super social while still getting everything done (twice as fast). Normally, I don't really talk much, and the first few times I hang out with people I usually don't talk at all, just trying to read them and figure out who they are. On vyvanse, I was walking up to randos in the street and having 20 minute conversations and getting numbers from girls I'd never seen before. Probably my favorite iteration of amphetamines. Wouldn't want to make it a habit.
As for getting off stims, well, you've heard all the good advice. Taper. I would do it slower than a week at a time, too. Sometimes quitting will cause ADD symptoms that weren't there before as a form of physical withdrawal, and tapering will help with that. You might also stock up on some high-fiber foods, otherwise things might stop moving. You'll also probably want to cut back on eating a bit, you'll be burning less calories when you take less stimulants, since your body won't be running at 110% at all times.

yeah i would get super vivid dreams on melatonin, not nightmares tho. I still get super vivid dreams tho, guess I just always have, I think melatonin just helps you get into that deep sleep REM cycle so you can really remeber dreams, idk i'm no doctor
