Agar questions *Please Delete*

*UPDATE* Read some stuff and realized how dumb my question was. Got it all figured out. Thanks again!
Well initially I planned on doing Pasty's agar tek until I realizd he uses an agar bar. I purchased a bottle of NOW Foods Agar powder. It's 100% pure powder and gluten free. I plan to put my agar inside of small plastic containers. Most likely the Rubbermaid 1.2 cup Takealong containers. Could anyone point me to the right direction for a tek along those lines? Pasty I really look to you for damn near all of my knowledge. You're probably my #1 inspiration. If the materials I have will still work for your tek just let me know and I'll stick to it. However, I was going to skip the potato flakes. You inspired me to start using Agar to isolate clean Myc. You also inspired me to update my current Grain jar lids. They all have poly filters and SHIPs now.

Man I have sure been having agar troubles of my own as of late....
I recently used some premade PDA powder a friend gave me from a company called "Seaweed Solutions". I made up 20 plates and saw nothing but thin, whispy growth.
Thinking the agar didn't have enough nutes I added some potato flakes to my next batch of plates. Still the same type of growth....
I now realize the agar I was pouring was wayyyy to firm to be of any use for mycology. The label had recommended using 10 grams per 250ml, but at this rate it was coming out hard as a rock....
I've now poured up a batch using 5 grams per 250 ml and it has a much better consistency. Hoping to see growth on this round.

Asking for a specific person in the title of your thread is probably the best way to get them to avoid you like a plague

most people won't answer cultivation questions through PM, they should be asked in public on the boards so everyone can learn from it.

As said above most wont answer a question on the forum directly aimed at them though the moral of the story is ask the forum not just one member

You guys have it all wrong. You have to say his name three times, after which he will appear in the nearest mirror and offer agar advice.

This.
In the future, when you ask questions, don't call out on anyone in particular, don't request "TCs only", or anything like that. I'm actually impressed you didn't get flamed a bit.
Pasty AFAIK only uses SHIPs on LC jars. Almost every one of us will agree a SHIP is another vector, and quickly opening a jar a crack to inoculate is far cleaner.
Just follow the tek. Your containers, if pp5, will work. As Munch mentioned, do not skip the potato. If you can't afford a $2 box of instant mashed (which could last you a year or more), maybe you have some fresh potatoes you can boil and use the water from? You can use a small hole and a couple layers of micropore tape instead of SFDs if you want, as you'll eventually find you have entirely too many plates to put proper filters on all of them. You really need at least a dozen or so plates to do anything…

You can find this at holefoods or other similar markets.
Here's the recipe I use for cubes. It's straight out of TMC. For oysters I sub dog food or oatmeal for the malt extract.
You might consider ordering a sleeve of plates...they're relatively inexpensive and will make agar work much more rewarding and fruitful.
