I have thawed the tomato!
Result:
- Taste is exactly the same - Texture is ruined!
Conclusion:
- Perfectly good idea if you plan on making a sauce or just dice it and make meals with it. Sandwiches and slices are out of the question.

yah, i figured it would.
The freezing process ruins the delicate structure of the tomato.
So it begs the question: Was it worth it?

We all know that plant cells burst when fozen because water expands when freezing.
And Obviosuly the salts, sugars and flavinoids in the tomato aren't going anywhere so flavor shouldn't change.
So Patlal knew the answer before he even made this thread, he just made the thread cause fuck it.

The way I see it. It's pretty much the same as canning it. You get the same squishy tomato pulp

Yeah cold tends to slow chemical reactions, it doesn't really make sense to me that freezing would do much in the way of altering the molecules that influence flavor. The articles I've been able to find on this all seem to be saying that refrigeration slows/halts the action of enzymes that produce flavor molecules. To me that doesn't really seem to point in the direction of flavor loss, more like preventing the flavor from developing further.

Patlal, what kind of tomatoes are you growing?
I only grew one variety this year, a yellow/orangeish heirloom variety called "gold medal". It's low acid, for a 'mater.

I grow roma tomatoes, hothouse tomatoes and cherry tomatoes that don't grow bigger than the size of a dime (they are amazing).
My Bulgari roommate brought me seeds from Bulgaria and it's 3 new strains. So next year I'll be growing these. Since it's foreign it'll probably take over the entire North American ecosystem.

I used to grow a cherry tomato called "sweet 100", they were awesome. I need to grow those again next year.
