    #2351520 - 02/18/04 07:25 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I don't think this is going to turn out quite like Vietnam.

Not on the scale of what we saw after Vietnam.

I heard somewhere that the "Vietnam psycho" thing was grossly exaggerated but I can't remember where I heard it so you can ignore it if you want. I know a lot of people who were there though and none are nuts.

well here in los angeles is seems that plenty of psychos are still laying around trying to rearrange their brains, right out in the streets.....

unless the cardboard signs they're making are full of shit and they're just crackheads who never went to nam, which could certainly be the case

Surely no one would ever be so swinish as to lie about a disability to increase their begging prospects. That would be......wrong.

well I would think if they're resorting to begging anyway, they wouldn't give a fuck what they write on the sign.. I mean if I were in such shape that I needed to beg for money on the side of the road for some reason, I'd write anything for that money man

Azmodeus, would it be better to be in debt up to your ass than to join the military to pay off your college debt?

those poor guys have to live with what they did over there for the rest of their lives. it's not gonna be as bad as vietnam, but I'm sure this war will produce some truly insane motherfuckers.

Some people go into the military cause they wanna kill. Some people get fucked by the stress. Some people did bad things in Vietnam. Some people will, or have done, bad things in Iraq. I don't doubt that people who have been reduced to begging have had bad things happen to them and I don't begrudge them their stories, true or not. I just heard that the whole "nuts from 'Nam" thing was overstated and I believe it. It got overplayed so much that everybody who went there was looked at with suspicion. It wasn't right.
