Edible Bolete?
    #23514536 - 08/05/16 10:19 PM (7 years, 5 months ago)

Curious if this guy is edible.

Thick, short stem with yellow, brown, and blue colors

Cap has yellow pores, and a smooth light brown top... it is also pretty thick.

The yellow pores bruise blue.  I've been told that any Bolete that bruises blue is edible and then Ive heard the opposite.

These were growing in a well watered lawn under a nice shady tree.  It seems out of season for boletes here in Oregon, am I mistaken?

Thanks for the help.

It's not edible or might as well not be if it is. Blue staining is not a reliable way to determine whether Boletus species are poisonous or not.

its something from xerocomus/xerocomellus group, they are all edible (at least here in europe), but rather soft and slimy when cooked.

Xerocomellus for the red stipe.  Should be edible.
