Can someone post pics of dry vs optimal substrates for monotubs.

What stage are the monos? Fruiting subs should glisten with moisture and fluctuate with constant evaporation from FAE. If the sub looks dry during colonization then increase the water content on the next mono. There's really nothing that can be changed until it's colonized and pinning. Misting dry subs that aren't already fruiting is going to contam if it isn't already.

Thanks for your reply, the tubs are in fruiting condition with pins all over now. Though it's certainly not glistening. The entire substrate is colonized with nice white Myc. Water droplets have condisated on the sides of the tub, but the surface of the myc doesn't look moist.

It's okay to mist then. IME any misting before the first flush (not recommended) is fully fruiting should be done during dark hours and mostly on the sides of the tubs. Direct misting on pins will slow growth and cause more aborts. They don't have the capacity to regulate moisture on the caps yet. Next round just up the water in the mix a bit to pull it through the first flush.

Sounds like a plan to me! I'm going to wait until after the first flush to give it any water. I'm thinking that I should dunk the bricks of myc in cold water for a good 24 hours or so then re-introduce them to their original tubs. however I'm going to clean them and replace the poly.

I was going to make a post about this earlier, as i was concerned for my 100% straw sub in my mono. Anyone Can anyone tell me if this looks dry? i see you mentioned not to mist while in incubation. Good to know!

That doesn't even look colonized. How long has it been since you spawned it? I've never used straw as a sub so I don't know anything about it.

No, its not colonized. It was only spawn on tuesday (2 days ago). But still.. I've never done only straw either but it looks extremely dry to me. (i could just be used to using field capacity for bulk subs tho)?

You shouldn't need to rehydrate until after a flush or two. Just read some good teks on how to get your sub to field capacity. Basically if you squeeze your substrate really hard you should only get a drop or two of water to squeeze out of it. After the first or second flush, you can dunk your sub.

So there is no way to fix this if it is too dry? Just do it better next time?
