best way to remove substrate
    #2351386 - 02/18/04 06:53 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

How should i get the grains out of the jar, its just one solid mass. How can i break it up without fucking it up. I've read through all the tutorials and they don't really say how to get the shit out of the jar. Stupid question? yes, probably, but this is my first grow that's actually been successful thus far and I don't wanna fuck it up. so thank you!

Spoon it out, or shake it and pour it out.

Penalties against drug use should not be more damaging to an individual than the use of the drug itself. Nowhere is this more clear than in the laws against the possession of marijuana and mushrooms in private for personal use.

Hope you're casing. If you can't get the cakes out without a spooon, cakes are out.

well i spooned it out. it was kinda tough, its not a problem if i scratch the grains is it? after i got it out of the jar it was in some pretty big clumps so i smashed it up a little bit and leveled it in my pan. Then i threw about an inch of coir casing on top, substrate was 3 inches deep. is contamination a big concern at this point since the grains are all colonized and should i do anything differently to ensure success?

As long as your casing, grain, pan, hands, workspace, spoon, ect was sterilized there should be no concern about contams, other than normal precations.

i just use BIG fork wiped down with alcohol. i stick it all the way to the bottom of the jar and twist it until everything comes apart. it has been my experience that even if everything isn't completely sterile that when you are using large amounts of colonized substrate it seems to be very rezilliant(sp.) against competitors. i had a terrarium fall off of a shelf and dump out all over the floor, it had two big casings with WBS in it, shit was a mess. i just threw it all back in the terrarium and forgot about it. a week went by and to my suprize i looked in this terrarium and there were some nice fruits growing staight out of the perilite in the bottom of the terrarium. crazy huh. dude there are like hairs and carpet fibers all mixed into the casing and no contamination. go figure.
