I've had a few aphids here and there but my worst problem this year has been slugs, really did a number on seedlings and my tobacco. Haven't really done anything to stop them other than picking them off.

Dude,I had the worst slug infestation ever, this spring. They nearly destroyed everything in site.
I would go out at night and pick hundreds, some pushing six inches long off my plants, and then when i saw there was no end in site,I bought this from Walmart, thinking what have i got to loose.

Let me tell, you this,I applied that shit during the evening before it got dark, and I went back out with a flash light,to take a look, and there were literally hundreds of slugs, totally avoiding my plants to get at this shit!
Needless to say, this has been the most effective product, that did what it said that I have ever bought, and I would hug,and thank every last person that invented this stuff if i could
Anyway, after that night,I never saw one single slug ever again, and still don't. It killed the whole colony of them dead!

Thanks, I have seen the stuff but was skeptical. I'll pick some up after work.

White flies are really annoying. They even survive the winter (Finland, a cold greenhouse) although some say they should not. Tomatoes and tobaccos, not much affected. Strawberries, total invasion, and black mold that came later was nasty too. This year, only some strawberries are in the greenhouse and the cucumber seemed to be next best thing for them, but now most of them are in some weed plants near the ground. That is, mainly in Stellaria media. This year, when they started appear, I kept doors more open letting maybe predators in and I have also picked ladybugs from outside whenever I have seen them. That maybe have helped. Only few flies now when the plants are shaken. Next year, if they still exist, I'll try the shoo-fly plant, Nicandra physalodes. (Too many plants to spray with oily waters and the poison (pyrethrin) I tested seems to work only few days.) 6 plants / 100 square meters should be enough. Also some other companion plants might work, like nasturtium, + some tricks like worm castings, etc.
Sometimes yellowish leaves can be a pH issue too.

I thought of that too. Maybe cause i sprinkled some calcium carbonate on the soil. Since i used so many coffee grounds i thought maybe the calcium carbonate would at least stabilize it. Maybe i did more harm than good. At this point i dont know but that insectocidal soap helped but was not very friwndly to thw coca leaves. They have spots on them. Most likely they will all drop now. I dont know. Just playing it by ear now.

Hey ferrel. I control whitefly with Horticultural oils sprayed every 3-5 days, on both sides of leaves. This is good at knocking down infestations quickly. Then put up some yellow sticky traps to catch any remaining adults. Keep spraying the plants for a few weeks so you get all the nymphs.
I'm a bit jaded today so wont type too much. Ask any questions if you have them though.

Here's a fact sheet>>>http://www.abc.net.au/gardening/stories/s2281115.htm
It's Australian based but the information is universal.

Here are my sprayed plants.

They first day they left. now they are back again. Mainly on the carolina reaper. I feel as a plant like the novogranatense, when it gets attacked it will make more alkaloids to ward off bug attacks. Stupid theory but maybe possible.

Oh yeah ferrel,i have an idea for you!
You need to construct a box out of two by fours, and line it with screen. Make it where it can be pulled on and off easily.
I think that will prevent them form getting on your plants,if the holes in the screen are small enough.

You'll need to spray for at least a couple of weeks to see results, and maybe from time to time if there's an infestation around that jumps the fence. Baby Whiteflies(nymphs) live on the undersides of the leaves and fly once mature. Read up on their life cycle to learn how to kill them better.
