Yeah, the ones designed for canning food.
Anytime I had canned food with them in the past, I didn't even use a PC. You put hot food in them and boil the lids, they create a seal that way, as everything cools it creates a vaccume inside. A lot of people use them for pickling stuff just like that. I believe this is the proper way to use mason jars.
You CAN pc them, but that don't mean they are going to hold up very well after a bunch of runs. This isn't lab glass. They are designed to be sterilized a few times at best, and in between those times they usually sit on a shelf with food in them for years.
Not to mention we hit them after with hard objects to bust up spawn, they are definitely not designed for that.
Just my 2 cents.

I've been doing some googling, it's really hard to find any borosilicate glasswear that would fulfill the purpose also pretty expensive they all have pretty skinny necks, but you could use a 1000ml boro media vessel
pretty much the best I can do http://www.calpaclab.com/pyrex-square-glass-media-storage-bottles-1-liter-gl45-case-10/cg-8092-1l I think it's dope as fuck but 20$ each doesn't really seem worth it

There are straight sided wide mouth jars but I don't know if pyrex makes any. I'm trying to remember from my days selling lab-ware if there were any available in borosilicate glass. I know they are available in flint glass and PP.

Theydo make glass kinda like that but they are hard to find and expensive.

Your looking at like $200 for a case of 10 500ml ones, before shipping or anything. The price goes up with size ofc.

Yeah I usually spot the hairline cracks before the jar is colonized. I won't shake those. One thing I have noticed is that jars where the water level was touching the jar are more likely to crack. Not sure if this is just corrolation but if I keep them totally elevated out of the water they seem to last longer.

Sorry to detour from the jar discussion but just out of curiosity, what do you guys prefer to use when pulling from a slant? Bout to use my slants for the first time and having trouble deciding what to use haha.
Also, i use a roll of plastic i use for liners to break up my jars. The roll has a lot of give but is still firm. Works pretty well

TheChief said: I really hate jars, they are very dangerous. They get so weak after just a few PC runs. It isn't what they are designed for.

It kind of is, though... I don't think that PCs weaken jars at all, but i'm sure that scratches and such from use & abuse do...
Heat surely does break down glass, any amount of heat. This happens at a meloecular level and can't be seen with the human eye. Even borosilicate brakes down after abuse, it just takes a lot more.

Have you watched the videos of things in action? They have machines that g2g like 4 or 5 of those at once. The sawdust block makers are pretty sweet too.
I've only had the bottoms of my jars pop off in the PC. Usually don't find out til opening it up.

I was thinking coprinoid but maybe not.
They are contaminate mushrooms that are usually do to poor pasterurization of peat or manure subs/casings. Give it a bit and see if your desired mushroom grows
