Here's a pic of the black walnut bags. These were nocd 7/26/16 and I just noticed tubers today. My guess is they started yesterday and would have shown even sooner but the bottom of the bags were slow to colonize due to the cold bench top they're on. These were spawn at 20% so pretty heavy but that's still only around 11-12 days. Looking forward to see how these fruit differ from the group run on straw.

Hmm I'm curious, where the correct conditions met? Maitake. If they where, then it may be copper content.
Looking here, I can see fruit body copper content for that species is sky high.

I put three of four walnut bags in the fruiter today. The tops of the blocks were forming tubers do I folded the top over and cut x's over them...My gut doesn't like this approach. The fourth block I was gonna cut an x in one end. First time fruiting bags so would gladly accept suggestions.

The walnut bags hadn't done anything so I spun them around and found some massive primordia clusters. I probably should have let these mature at least 5 days to a week more before fruiting. I cut the plastic away from 2 clusters...hopefully they'll tak off.

These are coming along nicely. Had the primordia developed unhindered, this could have been an amazing cluster. Note the difference in color between this group and those grown on straw.

Ive noticed the same, straw gives you a more pale color and the caps arent as thick. Wood really is the better sub.

Wood is very potent. My recent findings have concluded oleoresin's can be utilized. For my oysters they are a source of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.
I have found so far that pine contains the most. To the point it must be reduced by mixing.
Carbohydrates are used for carbon. Oleoresin's are more potent.

Hey Ferather, I've got a bag of pine shavings. This is kiln-dried wood. If I were to mix this with my walnut mill dust what ratio would you suggest without any additional treatment to the pine?

I'm not real keen on using pine....I just happen to have some and it is occasionally mixed in with my hardwood...

I did 50% to paper, but paper is bland. Walnut will already have some oleoresin's. Try 75/25 then 66/33 then 50/50, one of those will work well with walnut.
Sorry for a less direct answer, only recently found out myself. Here is the post where I started my pine testing.

Here's the first flush. Looks good with the exception of the streaks and pits. At first I thought it might be an infection but the culture appears clean. From digging around it looks like I might be spraying them too much. Thoughts?

Pinks at day 4 on fruit sawdust and mixed wood chips. These are fruiting much slower than they did on straw which were harvested at day 4. Quite the cluster, though.

I've been thinking about scaling up from grain jar > grain bag > grain bags> large mixture of sawdust and wood chips in totes> woodchip a in a large outdoor bed. I'll be watching this thread for ideas. Ever plan on doing a very large scale grow using this? I'm talking decorative outdoor "flowerbed" type.

I'd like to but it's too dry here. For now I'm just gonna keep playing around with various wood and supplement combos.
