underwater pinning?

So I'm doing BRF cakes...4 of the cakes started early and did well on the first flush...probably around 3-4 grams from each dried.
Now I went to dunk for a second flush...removed all the visible mushrooms...and the cakes looked clean...could not see even 1 pin.
I dunked for 24 hours and when I went to pull them out...there were somewhere around 20-30 pins on the cakes that had popped up underwater...completely blue (bruised)
They did not grow at all for almost 3 days and its been probably four or 5 days since I dunked and only one of the cakes has like 2 little pins.
Am I just being impatient and they need more time? Did I do something wrong to get them pinning underwater?

they might have aborted. were you super gentle with the dunk? they could have also been really tiny primordia, and been there when you picked all the other pins off, and aborted from all that handling and picking, only to really show themselves after they were allowed to bulk up a little from the dunk.
next time, just leave the pins alone and dunk with them on there. be very gentle. unless the pins are aborting, you dont need to pick them off before the dunk or anything like that.\
got pics?

Yeah, picking off pins, unless they are aborts, is picking off future fruits. You could have picked off your entire second flush if you didn't know you weren't supposed to.

In several instances cakes have been known to pin after being tossed in the trash and neglected for days.
Pinning under water is nothing to be alarmed about. Lol.
Allllll Gooooood.

Well I just dunked 5 more of my cakes for their second flush...only did it 6 hours this time and didn't try to remove the verm from the dunk and roll at their birthing or any of the pins on it.
They been out for maybe 2 hours and I can already see growth on some of the pins.
Not sure if it was the most efficient way but its working a heck of a lot better than the first four I tried.

you dont need to rinse any of the verm off from the roll. you want that to stay put. that may be why your others aborted, since you were trying to rub the verm from the surface. when pins are tiny primordia, it doesnt take a whole lot to make them abort. i have heard of people having aborts from simply grazing primordia.
