Cool Heyowana. An honour to be the first other person to contribute with a NSW find. My only fruit of A LOT of labour hunting the rainforest for 5 days.

P.Papuana

Hi Bob, are you sure this is Psilocybe, did you get a spore print? I'm fairly certain this will turn out to be Entoloma.

Hi everyone. My computer broke and can't be repaired. Had 7 years of service so I can't complain. Don't like using my phone because reception is so poor. It will be a long while until I buy another. So all the best. The coastal subs have one third of their stipe of matted mycelium. They stain almost black blue. Unlike P.azurescens the cap is undulating on mature specimens. Mountain subs are no where near as strong.. Coastal subs give you a rush like meanies when they first come on. I live in the mountains so I don't have any photos. Going off the radar for a year or so. Getting to old to care about this any more. Happy hunting for those who want to put in the effort.

Sorry to hear mate but you keep on doing what makes you happy and thanks for the inspiration you've provided me and likely others to continue hunting these amazing mushrooms. Looking forward to your return, may it be sooner rather than later.

Thanks everyone. I'll miss these forums. Well contributing that is. Guess the old saying that the only inevitability in life is change has proven itself again. I have walked the straight and narrow path of the recluse most of my adult life. I have always felt a destiny about mushrooms. They have shown me many things about my shortcomings in life. Providing me with a WAY to face life's challenges. All the best.

Yea, that's how life is.
I received your specimens and was able to get good ITS DNA sequences out of them.

Hi Heyowana,
Yes I have access to horse paddocks in the Coffs/Grafton region.
Very interested in hunting in August and September but thought at this time there was nothing around. I noticed in this old thread that you were hunting these in similar climate and season. Your images are fantastic and give me hope! Thank you for the information provided.

After this rain are there any shroomery members in NSW with access to horse paddocks? Worth a look because the P.alutacea won't dry out fast now like they do in Summer.
Some more P.alutacea from today.
-------------------- Forever hunting!

That year 2016 we were still getting average rainfall. Year before there was some heavy falls throughout the first six months of the year.
Since then it has dried up to drought like conditions 2018-2019. BOM has predicted drier than average conditions for NSW aug- oct.
Not wishing to dampen ( no pun intended ) your enthusiasm but there are no active fungi growing where I live now because of the drought.
After storm rain as I said via PM you could check paddocks grazed by horses/ cows in ditches and runoff zones for P.alutacea and tasmaniana. December here after storm rain P.sect. Zapotecorum starts fruiting near log dumps.P.papuana will start too Dec.
P.sect.Zapotecorum fruits until April early May if its still warm.P.papuana will fruit right into the middle of winter. P.tasmaniana and alutacea all year if its wet enough. Good luck.

I hope Heyowana is alright, I'm guessing his area has been really affected by bushfires. I don't know exactly where he is but considering the size of the fires in that general area there's about an 85% chance it came close or went through his place.
Or he may have been out fighting those fires for the last month (and still is), I don't know. I just hope he is safe and he hasn't had to suffer too much loss.

I hear ya, I've been thinking about all of the people and critters caught up in that mess, hope he's ok too.
