P.papuana fruiting where last specimen was found.

2nd row first image- there is a black blob in the middle behind the fruit bodies. That's what's left of that solitary one from a couple of weeks ago.

Not lately. Last April when they were common I got into them. They really fuck me up. A bit too potent for me. I'd always under estimate how strong they were. The really black bigger ones that fruit where I'm taking the photos now would taste like an intensely bitter orange vitamin C pill. Two fresh fruit bodies the size of a 20c piece across and the effect was very noticeable.
Don't think I've had more than 20g fresh weight. They were the little ones from the other spot that had green, brown and black caps. Too much for me. The bigger ones where I'm finding them now are stronger weight for weight I think.

Cripes. You've tried subs i imagine, how are they in potency and overall effect relatively speaking.
Cheers for the info.

I'm glad to share the info with you. Thanks.
If I had to make a list these would go at the top for potency along with meltdown P.cyanescens? Next would be meanies- Copelandia cyanescens. Followed by Sydney P.subaeruginosa that had the stems like matted mycelium. Then P.semilanceata? from FNQ. Then P.subaeruginosa from here which are about the same potency as P.tasmaniana I think. P.cubensis next followed by P.alutacea. Bottom of the list would be P.pelliculosa look alikes out Oberon way

Panaeolus cinctulus would be in between P.cubensis and P.alutacea. I kind of draw the line at P.cubensis. Further down the list and you just need too many mushrooms for a decent effect.

Nice photos Heyowana The cultivated specimens look just like these, can you tell me roughly what temperature fluctuations you have outside at the moment?

Excellent pix Heyowana and awesome growing Inksi I've been placing P papuana culture outdoors. I'll definitely try an indoor of them eventually. Check this P papuana spawn out forming sclerotia

Thanks Viridis, Good luck with your cultures. I grew quite a few different cultures from P. papuana and there were absolutely no sclerotia formations in any of them, they were all very clean cultures, are you sure those are sclerotia? I'd be a bit worried about grain spawn from that species if it looked like that, what type of grain is that and how was it inoculated? Here is what it looks like on Rye Grain.

P. alutacea on the other hand forms small very dark coloured sclerotia in the containers of spent Horse manure/compost and CVG substrate and can also fruit directly from rye grass seed cased with coir.

I'm certain that is P papuana mycelium sclerotia. Started culture asap upon print arriving. Clean culture on agar no contams. It's a chicken scratch grain I was experimenting with. It has corn in it which makes it sticky/clump together. Holds moisture too well and is difficult to get out of jar. Using winter rye grain I haven't seen this growth because it can be shook and colonizes in couple weeks and after that I birth and transfer out. Sclerotia growth seems to come later. The chicken scratch grain jar took a good 6-8 weeks to colonize. The jar in pix is several months old maybe longer. Inski I'd love to see you work with P baeocystis you definitely got skill

Better late than never. Sorry Nights the temps fluctuate wildly ATM. Usually about 14C most nights but can drop down to 8C or up to 18 degrees. Daytime it gets up to low 20's on a sunny day. Cloudy cold days 16C at lunchtime.
Thanks everyone for your input. Good to see you Viridus420 and good luck with that P.papuana culture. Thanks NothingsChanged

Thanks Bunya I must add that you dialled them in Inski on your first attempt as far as looks go. They look exactly the same as the wild specimens. I hope you give them another try sometime so we can all drool over those cultivated P.papuana specimens.

First P.papuana to appear around log dump this season. This is the original place I found them. Below are a lot of photos of one specimen plus an old one of the gold cap pheno. I'm changing their name to pale cap pheno. They spend most of their fruiting cycle pale rather than gold.
I'm very interested in this pheno because it isn't mentioned as a characteristic colour for P.papuana. Hence all the photos for those that are interested in this species for ID purposes.
First off I found a little brown cap P.papuana.

Next the pale cap pheno.

P.papuana fruiting where I have found them after heavy rain since last April. So Autumn - Summer. Looks like they don't have a season and will fruit any time of the year.
P.papuana specimen fruiting down the hill about 50meters away.

Another slightly blurry bunch close by.

Finally P.papuana light cap (slightly dried out now) and dark cap pheno together.
