Yes P.papuana sure has diverse morphology. Gills being nearly white then changing to the greyish lavender colour of Psilocybe genera being one indication of this species. The stem always has a crimson hue to it in older specimens. The bluing is almost black/blue.
The cap can come in almost any colour. Conical shape predominates on ones with a thin stem. The thicker the stem the crazier the shape of the cap it seems. I think they are sick as in cool. Others may disagree because they don't look like the classic Australian Psilocybe species.
I'd rather people don't know about their inner qualities. They will one day when it becomes obvious that they are a common species. Until something better crosses my path they are my favourite entheogen.

Just posting these pics here to share and keep track of this epic thread. Great work Heyowana Im on the vic/nsw border and found these "confirmed" Ps. Alutaceae on my mountain growing from wombat dung on red clay in known Ps. Subaeruginosa habitat. Was amongst bracken and teatree
I also snapped a pick of these ones a week prior (in a different location on the same mountain) but failed to get a specimen so I have to guess they are Ps Alutaceae. What confuses me is that they appeared to be growing from enriched soil, not straight dung.
I will take the time to read this thread properly and hopefully, I can contribute some pics of various phenotypes as they are abundant on my mountain at the moment.

Been away for a while. Initially I was posting on mushroom observer. Then my computer has been problematic. Now it seems all good so I'll update this thread when we get some sunny weather to get in some solar power. Winter here so there is a shortage of sunlight where I live. Quote:

P.papuana fruiting in a very dark place at the Winter solstice. Maybe those dark caps help with heat absorption?
