That's right. I've spent a few hours looking at Alan's youtube videos of P.zapotecorum, caerulescens and aztecorum. My goal last season and now was to find an Australian lookalike for P.zapotecorum.
P.papuana looks a bit like P.aucklandiae so it's not too far removed from P.zapotecorum I guess.
Thanks I'm looking forward to the wet season when it starts.

I went and had a look where P.tasmaniana fruits and there were a few specimens. Some are a bit dried out with the heat.

Few more P.papuana also looking dried out.

That stuff looks really snakey. Any concerns about browns or taipans? Don't know you have taipans in nsw.

When I was a kid my neighbours friend was bit and killed by a Taipan. That was in northern NSW. Taipans are more in Qld fortunately. Not many Browns because its a bit too wet here. There are Red belly black snakes, which aren't a problem. I've seen my dogs step on them and they only feint strike.
Tiger snakes are fairly common. They aren't aggressive like a Brown snake. Plenty of pythons and a small snake called a Crown snake. They are aggressive but they only grow to about 2 foot long. They are only mildly poisonous as well. No Death adders because its too wet.

That one is still hanging around. I saw it near the water tank about a week ago. It was funny. There was a little one curled up on top of the tank where the water flows in. Two days later the big resident one was down at the bottom curled up where water leaks out into a container.

Big Carpet snake.

Little Carpet snake.

True I think they are hunting green tree frogs. The frogs get all over the tank when its wet. The big one might be just sunning itself. I couldn't imagine how many frogs it would take to fill that one up.

Thank you. I hope you do find them. Wish I knew where P.papuana was found in Sydney so I could let you know. Oh well it's all part of the fun of mushroom hunting eh?

Yes I thought P.tasmaniana was a Mycena species before I looked at the gills. Even P.papuana with its very pale almost white gills at first could be mistaken for Mycena. However P.tasmaniana's gills look the same colour as the gills on a liberty cap. P.alutacea as well. P.papuana has very dark gills on old specimens. They end up a rich brown coffee colour on ones that are too old for collection.

First image showing the darkest gills on P.papuana I have picked. I wouldn't call it coffee colour. 2nd image showing a range of gills colours for P.papuana.
