Golds, greens, greys, browns, yellows, tans, blacks....the golden greens are the prettiest!
Its fascinating. I'm always speculating about why all the colours and different phenos. I agree about the green with gold ones. They are my favourites as well.

Well it's either a crazy genetic makeup allowing those differences anywhere anytime or it is that one drop of iron oxide (just and IE) from a adjacent stone. If you were a bontanist and a geo we would all know by now

I'd guess genes have the final say. The black ones never open up like the others do. They fade in colour. I also find those dark liberty cap shaped ones extremely hard to spore print. So far no success even though I had them covered and hydrated the cap surface to keep them moist.
The others will print if I keep a weight on the cap to stop it rolling up.

Last image habitat shot where the little 'black bombers' are hiding. See how many you can spot.

I get 2 bunches of 3. One bunch of 2 plus the single one. To the right there is a cluster just outside the photo. I think that's a leaf further out past the single one.
Thanks for having a look.
I'll post the other ones just outside the photo. I thought they'd be in it. The photo is a bit blurry. Better still I'll go down there now and snap a clearer pic.

I'm thinking these could be a separate species from the larger olive-black with "orange tops" and the olive/gray:

Their appearance is so different... With your luck and the amazing area you live in, it's possible you nailed another one.
Did Inski have a look at these? it would be interesting to compare with the black mushrooms.

They are all in the same area. I think they have come from spores dropped last Autumn from ones I've got some pics of. The phenos vary that much I agree. Inski has looked at the following specimens.

First this one up above.

Along with this type.

More recently he looked at gill fragments off this type.
I can ask him and see what he thinks about those specimens. Anyway thanks for your observations.

These are the ones above that grew in the same spot last Autumn.

New bunches above in the same area. Photos from the last few days.

I also sent Inski one of these from image 1. Rest of the pics show the specimen in question.
So far he is fairly convinced that all samples I have sent him are from the same species-P.papuana.

Getting dry again. Mostly black P.papuana left now. A few browns are there plus some green ones. Ho hum. Back to the cactus garden.

Sorry about that 3rd image. I uploaded the wrong one. Too blurry.
