Are your mushrooms still fruiting Heyowanna?Quote:
Heyowana said: Hey Bagels:) It's been really dry here for the last two months. Yesterday I went next door and found a little P.alutacea. This was after 50mm the day before. Get home and upload the photos and they were all blurry.
P.tasmaniana should start fruiting soon because the spot where they were is wet enough now.
I hope P.papuana fruits soon too. The spot where I found them looked wet enough when I went there today.
I'll go for a walk next door now and see if I can get some clear photos of P.alutacea. Guess its pretty dry mushroom wise where you live now?
We have had a really wet spring. It was really warm yesterday and it is raining now. A very settled climate here and hardly any weather really not compared to where I used to live. I would love a nice thunderstorm But no but not many places that a constantly damp now.
I think the paddocks are kept too tidy around here. You have brumbies don't you? It sounds like it is a pretty cool place where you live. Lol like you just walk over next door to check out your mushies.

Image 1&2 same P.alutacea specimen. Image 3 with cracks in the cap means this mushroom has fruited before then dried out.
Not much next door yet Bagels. We have been getting thunderstorms all this week. So fingers crossed the situation will improve for P.alutacea. The brumbies live down near town about 3 kilometres away. They venture up to next door occasionally.
I checked out a paddock in the open with lots of their poo around but I couldn't find anything. The only two I found in the pics were on top of a pile of blackbutt leaves in a ditch at the foot of a tree.

Hey well it's good you found a couple and it does look quite wet there. I guess if they are in a ditch that would collect rainwater but the hp would not be too water logged as it is sitting on the leaves. Are there any Pan. foes or other mushrooms around?
I hope those Tasmaniana show up for you soon. I haven't really thought to check out my patch this time of year. Maybe I will as it's a nice place for a walk anyway. I liked to hunt around lots of different and new places as I get bored easily and like the adventure

Dried out again. We had no rain for two months before this. I'm hoping this rain has started the cycle off for P.alutacea. Before the dry spell they were fruiting each month after any rain.
Yes I'd like to be picking P.tasmaniana again. The spot is too dry again. It never got wet enough because there wasn't any runoff. The soil was so dry before this rain that it soaked straight in.
I went and got 4 big bags of brumby poo and laid it out over the top of last years lot. The P.tasmaniana appear to like growing around it. Also Stropharia rugosoannulata came up all through it last Summer and Autumn. That would be a bonus to have some edibles there as well.
The Agaricus species I have tried here growing on the bush tracks are excellent quality. Their caps are fairly dark being dark brown in the centre. They smell sweet and almond like.
Thanks Bagels I understand what you mean about boredom. However when I do find a spot for actives it's very productive to go as slow as possible covering a small area at a time. Very time consuming. Luckily I have plenty of that so it doesn't matter.
I think you just need to be in the right place at the right time Fractaliopsybe. Once you find the other species you'll have no problem. It must be hard to know where to look for P.tasmaniana here. I think I just fluked finding them in the first place. So good luck.

P.tasmaniana specimen growing at original bulldozed drain location. The grass and moss has just started to grow back over the last two weeks. Next to it is a piece of fresh horse dung.
I laid it down two weeks ago as mentioned in the post above.
This first specimen is a sign of good things to come for 2017. We have been receiving regular storm rain a couple of times each week over the last fortnight.
I go into a bit of detail for my own reference as much as anything else.

Well, it is cool to see that as season ends in one part of the world, it starts in another.
And this thread is still one of the more exciting ones. Keep 'em coming!

Thanks Bunya. I don't know with the dry looking caps. I'd need to see a pic of the stem as well. A gill shot would be great. Why what are they?

Sometimes I see the deceiver-Laccaria laccata thinking they are actives. They come in so many different shapes. Your specimens look a bit conical in the cap but I'm not much help with an ID. What colour are the gills Bunya? Also stem colour as well.
You'd be better off doing a separate post on the ID forum. Then people that know a lot more than me could help you.

Bandicoot dug up a spot a few feet away from these P.tasmaniana. It was flat and getting a nice moss covering. Looked an ideal habitat. It was last season. There is always something be it Lyre birds scratching up the area. Wallabies eating the grass and pounding the mushrooms flat with their feet.
Now bandicoots looking for worms and making little tunnels everywhere. It's very hot and windy today so I'm glad I found these specimens before they abort with the dry conditions.
