This is really cool. Have you thought about taking prints and distributing them in the marketplace? It would be great to do some comparative microscopy on these guys.

Thanks for all the input everyone.
Yes relic its grass roots stuff. I had an old book from the early 1980's. Could have even been from the 70's. Psychedelics Encyclopedia was its name. Anyway its info about Psilocybin mushrooms in USA kind of matches where we are now in Australia in terms of number of species. I'm sure there are more to add to my list. In fact I'm certain having found other species.
The micro climate here is unusually wet for NSW. All 3 species have been found at 800- 900 meters elevation. There are big temperature fluctuations. These factors may be important for finding exotic species. I just don't want to stress this because I'm one person who has found these species all within a kilometer of one another.
I want people to look and not dismiss this as "Oh he's in an ideal climate etc" One example means nothing in the scheme of things. Even if they aren't widespread I bet there are other unknown Psilocybe species growing in other wet microclimates in Australia.

Thanks for your support NBYK Hi Anglerfish. This is all quite new to me. I chickened out and had TimmiT do a MO observation for me of the P.tasmaniana. Alan Rockefeller wants me to do a MO for P.alutacea. I'm ashamed to say I haven't done it yet.
I sent samples to Alan Rockefeller of P.papuana. I expect him to look at them but I'm too lazy or more likely afraid to do a MO of them. I must do this and now that you have reminded me I'll sign up on Mushroom Observer and have a go over the next few days.
About the season for P.tasmaniana that's what made me a bit suspect about the actual name P.tasmaniana in the first place. Inski patiently explained to me that they are a good match for it. The bell shaped cap, spore size and shape illustrating this.
They fruit into the coldest time of the year. They fruit at the hottest time as well. P.alutacea is the same so far. I found them first in late January. That's Summer here. They are still popping up every month in spite of frost during the Winter. P.alutacea doesn't like wind because they are a small species so they dry out very quick.

Hi leschampignons I don't know that much about shroomery other than the mushroom hunting and ID thread. Can you explain to me what I need to do? I have sent prints to mycologists of P.tasmaniana and P.alutacea. I have also sent them to people who want to have a go at growing them.
So far as far as I know P.tasmaniana has proven difficult to fruit in artificial conditions. I haven't heard back about P.alutacea yet. P.papuana I have only sent spores to mycologists so far. I'm not sure about their season because when I first found them in late April the weather changed. It had been hot then suddenly cold. I couldn't find any more after May.
They could be a warm weather species for all I know.

The P.aztecorums he was saying had verification from a noted NZ mycologist. They showed the white bleaching of the caps. Now maybe they were P.pseudoaztecorum.
Enjoy the chat with you Hashed.
Yup, I figured, not cool right, ah well, what are you going to do, I tried.
Hmmmmmm, something more to look into I suppose, I got my work cut out for me, got to find out about every single active species that occurs here.
Bro, wish we had cubes and pan cyans,
I'm fairly certain we have Pan. cinctulus.
And yes, always great to chat Heyowana!

These are my favourite pics of P.papuana. Same mushrooms in sunlight and not. Check out the texture of the caps. They are the only Psilocybe species I've encountered with that texture. Thanks Hashed and Bunya

Favourite P.tasmaniana photos. Jan Borovicka commented on the top multicoloured pic. He said wow. Made my day. Thanks Hashed

Thank you very much Hashed and Fractaliopsybe
After this rain are there any shroomery members in NSW with access to horse paddocks? Worth a look because the P.alutacea won't dry out fast now like they do in Summer.
Some more P.alutacea from today.
