Hey everyone
Went next door this arvo. It had been sunny and windy today. Too windy because 90% of the P.alutacea had dried out.

I had a look where a New England blackbutt had fallen over. Its leaves had died and rotted into the ground in piles. Found this old fungus growing there. Took a lot of photos. Check out the colour change on the stem over time.

Thanks Rollin.n.Strollin That sounds great about looking for P.papuana in PNG.

I haven't had enough. They are very potent weight for weight when fresh. All the dried ones went overseas. I haven't found many yet. It surprised me finding one now. I had a look at Alan Rockefeller collections from Veracruz in Mexico for section Cordisporae. They were Summer fruiting. P.papuana is in that section.
P.papuana in PNG is found at greater elevations than here. From memory I think 1600m and higher. This one was found at around 800-820m. The others were all together near a log pile at 850m elevation.
I wish I could find enough for a good dosage. I might regret it though because weight for weight they are much stronger fresh than the P.subaeruginosa growing here.

It's extremely humid over there so that'd be a bonus.

There is a PDF file called "New Species of Psilocybe from Papuana New Guinea, New Caledonia and New Zealand." It has 4 Psilocybe species from PNG. It says P.papuana occurs from 1000m -2400m a.s.l.
On the equator it would be better to be elevated to get away from the humidity I agree.

Last 2 pics of P.papuana. Poor quality. Apologies. Just to show the transition from a pink stipe to a blackish/blue one.

Found some caerulescens type mushrooms today. Same species as yesterday. Think they are P.papuana but they tend to be larger with caps up to 35mm across. Also some have a more fleshy robust stem. They all turn that black/blue colour on the stem after it goes from crimson to purple.
Found them growing amongst leaf litter in a large ditch. The soil is clayey.
