Are guilt and morality directly related?

Today a guy at work dropped a bunch of expensive crap on the floor totally by accident (although admittedly he wasn't being 100% perfectly safe, he wasn't being dangerous either). My friend was like "You know, IMO if you don't feel like an asshole for doing something like that you aren't a good person deep down."
Which I found interesting. I told him I thought it was unhealthy to blame yourself for being human. But what if it was like A LOT of REALLY expensive shit? One time in a class this kid broke a $300 item that the professor specifically told him to be careful with. And considering we were in our senior year I felt like the guy should have had more care, I admittedly still blame that dumb fuck for that shit.
But how bad should you feel, even if its something totally understandable. Like what if a ball comes flying out into the road, and in distraction you swerve and actually hit the kid who was running after the ball. In other words, if you had just hit the ball the kid would be fine. Which is totally 100% understandable, nobody can be expected to be a race-car ninja, shit happens. But if somebody did that and didn't feel ANY guilt or remorse at all I would for sure question their morality/sanity. You should for sure feel bad if your actions resulted in a death even if its an accident.
So what do you think shroomery? Is guilt a sign of pointless social conditioning or is it the seat of morality?

Something that I've come to believe in is a slightly different version of karma to a point, but I myself still can't find the words to fully describe it. Basically I, you, we, are going to live every life on this earth, everything from being an atom to being a human, you will experience every second. You decide to put a magnifying glass to an ant hill? That day will be hell for you when your consciousness experiences all those lives. But that's just an example, like I said I can't fully describe it, and if that just sounds like a bunch of bull, I don't blame you. I don't think a kid will have to be killed a thousand times as an ant for a moment of childhood ignorance, but just give it some thought the next time you decide to expand your mind.

I don't feel guilt unless I purposefully do something wrong. If I hit the kid out of an honest mistake I'd be kinda sad but not guitly. If I text my buddy and paint the road with the kid's brains then I'd feel pretty bad.

It's possible they're related, but not always aligned. For example, I'd feel guilty for killing an animal, even if for the morally superior purpose of feeding starving people who would otherwise not eat.

....IS A CUBE JUST A CUBE???!!?!
Wouldn't Guilt be dependent upon Morality, as-in IT must BE, in-order for GUILT (in this particular instance) to exist...?
or is it like the "chicken VS egg" Scenario....
what Was broken at work, if I may ask?
