My foaf is going to attempt a grow pretty soon, and he's sick of fooling around with BRF-grown shrooms. He has no pressure cooker, so he's planning to inoculate BRF jars and use them to make spawn a la the Corncob Mycelium Slurry tek.
He also has on hand a bag of Scott's 3-in-1 compost mix. The last time he tried to use the stuff (which didn't work, but he knows that he goofed a lot of things up) he had a lot of difficulty pasteurizing it - using the Oven Bag Tek he couldn't keep the temp from going over 185. Bearing in mind that he's going to be able to make really large quantities of corncob spawn, what is the simplest possible thing he could do that's likely to succeed?

If your going bulk you'll need a pressure cooker.

dump an apropriate amount of 3in1 into a pillow case. submerge that pillow case in water you have boiled, but is not currently boiling. The idea is to try and maintain the temp of the water at just above 170F. Failing that, you could just sterilize it in the microwave. It should still work, but it won't have all the "beneficial micro-organisms" that pasteurizing is supposed to preserve. What affect this has on growing, I really can't say.... Depending on what is in the 3 in 1 it is probably best to mix it 1:1 with coarse verm to increase water holding capacity and airation.

The corncob mycelium slurry tek suks! It has a very high rate of contams.
Spawn some pasturized horse poo with the brf jars....you will be much happier with the results.
Good luck
