Are there any drying/storage teks out there that are better than mine?

Was going through all the drying teks the other day, wasn't very happy with any of them so I wrote my own up real quick. My drying/storage write up. Added alternative storage methods too.
Am I wasting my time here? Are there decent teks out there I was simply unable to find?
If all is well on that front, got any suggestions/critiques for my write-up? A couple pictures couldn't hurt, at least a simple drawing of a desiccant chamber.

Dehydrator. Everyone is going to bash your desiccant chamber. With all due respect, I honestly would not feed this forum with more BS threads about desiccant chambers.

with all due respect, you are mistaken.
my write-up includes dehydrators, and desiccant chambers are widely accepted by the community far as I know.
Curious, why do you say that about the chambers?

Desiccant chambers are bootleg noob shit.
Food dehydrator to cracker dry then air tight storage. That's the only TEK

Surely you've been around enough to take passive notice of the communities general response to desiccant chambers? Oh well crap TC beat me to it..

In your writeup you say
Quote:
1) A food dehydrator: You can get one for about 40 bucks new, real easy to use, pick your fruits, put them in the trays and turn it on. Once they're all but totally dry (8-24 hours later) throw them in a desiccant chamber.
You started out with bad information there. Why would you remove fruits from a dehydrator if they are not fully cracker dry yet? The longer they stay wet, the more oxidation happens and that effects potency in a bad way. This is a fact. Desiccant chambers are a really dated, inefficient, waste of money. Desiccant chambers keep your fruits moist for a longer duration than they would be if they had just stayed in the dehydrator longer.

Well, my area is quite humid. Even with my dehydrator going at the hottest temp the fruits never come out cracker dry.
Using a desiccant chamber and dehydrator in tandem like that is the only way I've ever gotten cracker dry.
Am I alone here? Am I doing something wrong?
I've only got my own experience with drying to go on here, so lay it on me.

besides if you actually read my writeup you'd see I recommend against using desiccant chambers for drying. I say they should only be used for storage and finishing touches

I have no experience with humid places. For me all that's needed is dehydrator and vacuum sealer. Though rH here is like 5-30% tops

Even in Houston a good dehydrator does its job. The humidity hardly matters at 160F almost no water can be in the air so it still drys the fruits on the trays the same

My experience using a desiccant chamber had me on the shitter for hours. My friend, literally shit his pants. This was before I knew about properly drying (dehydrator).

You are right. I didn't read it all. But I agree a desiccant pack of sorts is ok for safer storage, but desiccants are absolutely no bueno for drying fruits in ANY CAPACITY. The oven set at a low setting would be more ideal than desiccant chambers (i know, using an oven was your #2.... see i did read some).

odd odd odd. Wonder what my issue is. I'll have to do some test runs.
Well thanks for pointing that out guys. I'll have to re-write that part

Heat can make it seem cracker dry before it actually is cracker dry. I like to do 24 hour dehydrator cycle regardless. Just in case.

yup, ive been "overdrying" since day one. i mean.. why not, you know? doesnt hurt the fruits or their potency one bit, and it make 100% certain your fruits are totally and completely dry.
OP, you might need to just simply leave them in the dehydrator longer.. and if that isnt the problem, then maybe your dehydrator is broken
i like in NC, and it's always soggy-balls humid. always. my dehydrator does just fine.

What's the best method to dry without a dehydrator? I have some to pick tonight.
I just bought a PC the other day along with grains and quart jars... Wife will be mad if I come home with a dehydrator. Been spending on this hobby a good bit lately.
I recently air dried a batch, and my buddy said they were totally bunk.

Sweet thanks. The lowest my oven goes is 170. Place the rack high from the element, put shrooms on foil, and leave the door open?

Better if you point a fan into the oven.. Moving air is pretty important.

yeah, and put a fan blowing into the open door, if possible. should help speed things up.. but i would get a dehydrator asap, if you plan to continue to grow. which it seems like you want to. walmart has presto dehydro for $30 where i live. that is what i got.

When you do get a dehydrator (if you havent got one yet), get this one and be my guinea pig. Report back with a review. (totally a joke, but at the same time i am kinda serious too)
