Is it impossible for a dry shroom to drop spores?
    #2350787 - 02/18/04 04:41 PM (13 years, 8 months ago)

I want to know because I have dried shrooms and i'm very interested in growing but I can't seem to get access to any wet ones and since spores last so long you'd think that the dried shrooms would even still drop them.

If it is possible for them to drop spores, is there a way to grow the spores without access to a syringe?

The cap is unlikely to drop much if anything at all.

However, the gill tissue is laden with spores. With proper agar work the spores could be germinated.

Back in the day I tried to make a syringe directly from a dried cap, boy was that an ugly mess once it grew out.

I'm just trying to yield enough spores to start a little jar for personal use, not a giant terrarium to sell to people. The way i figure is best to grow is with my own spore print since I don't want to get arrested for trying to buy things off the net.

Is there any way to apply spores without a syringe?

Your best bet is to order a syringe from sporeworks :P They're safe, discreet, and fast... what you're talking about is more work (and more suspicious) than just ordering a spore suspension microscopy kit

I read (in the Mushoom Cultivator i think) that you can try to put an drop of water on the Cap then it will Spore again a little.I dont think that you will have much success but when it is an Rare Species or something, why not.

He is speaking of a fresh cap, not one that has been dehydrated.

Take a fragment of a gill and put it on agar. You may get both mycelium and contaminants growing out. If you identify the mycelium quickly enough, you can separate it out and grow a piece of it out on another plate of agar.

Good luck!

Does anybody wanna be cool and offer me a little discreet help? If i don't have to enter my information into a website than I could just say they were unsolicited if push ever came to shove, doubt it anyway. You'll get to hear all my future fun tripping stories if you help me grow!

for the small one-time fee of your eternal soul.
