$135 million dollar home. Seems a tad over the top, does it not?
    #23505686 - 08/03/16 01:28 PM (7 years, 5 months ago)

http://www.zillow.com/homes/for_sale/Beverly-Hills-CA/20534652_zpid/10389_rid/featured_sort/34.139372,-118.344641,34.025774,-118.454505_rect/12_zm/5_p/0_mmm/

It has a half million dollar mortgage. Dude I've got like 37K saved up that I saved over the course of like 10 freaking years, and that would what, get me like two days (if that) in that place?

I can't even wrap my mind around something like that.

It's 18,000 square feet...So it's literally 18 times bigger than the place I'm at currently lol

I started a thread about such things in PS&P:

66,000-square-foot, 29 bedrooms. Seems insane, does it not?

Joe cockerel estate in Colorado is going to auction soon.  They wanted 7 mil and have lowered the asking price.  15k square ft and 240 acres.  Comes with greenhouses.

BTW, on that 66,000 square foot home that Beard mentioned...can you imagine what the upkeep would be on a place of that magnitude? Like the monthly cost alone?

You'd need a team of maids to keep the place clean and an army of motherfuckers just to take care of the damn yard

Man these places are so over the top,
I'm guilty of liking nice things but these houses are so tasteless I wouldn't want em even if I had that money. I would however like a shitload of property. Were I to have untold millions I would try to buy as much forested land as I could, in seperate states/countries and build snazzy little west coast style houses on em

Ok, but what if you made like 300 million dollars (which is doable), then gave away 90% of it to people in need and those who deserve better. You're still left with 30 million to be selfish with. Is that still sicknening?

I'd be down for a mansion, but not one of those.  I think having land is more valuable.

Just something really big maybe like 5-6 bedrooms and 3-4 full baths and than like 500 acres or more of land.

Thanks man, I holding back from puking now as I write this.

Thing is, I've been to Mumbai, you'd probably get a great look at all the slums from up there. What confused me the most when there was just how happy the people with absolutely fuck all there looked. Then you get all these people in the city with huge amounts of excess, and they just look fucking miserable.

imo the notion that anyone can make that much money is just flat out crazy, but if you make that much and give most of it away then at least you're a decent person imo. I really think earnings should be capped, but I'm a dirty socialist so I don't expect others to agree :hamsterdance:

I'm not gonna lie, if I had a lot of wealth, I would definitely be down for a place like this

The super mega homes that are like a zillion square feet -- I agree, that's just ridiculously over the top.

But a nice, sleek property on an ocean front...man. Just waking up every morning and having some coffee on that deck would be priceless.

Yeah i would go for a 10 room/10 bath mansion. Land would be more useful for me as well...Like 20 arces would be dope.

But this super mansion trend is similar to the yaycht trend, they want bigger and bigger boats to "compete" with their rich friends.
Its a show-off shitshow. Lucky bastards.

You can get a taste of this you know. My wife and I did after we got married. Got all our close friends to chip in about £90 each (about $120 for perspective) and rented a huge mansion in a remote part of the country for 4 days.

It was EPIC.

It was something like this:

It's really quite reasonable if you split it...

Yeah I had one of those lame ass celebrity shows on in the background a few weeks ago (I was on the computer and it was one of the shows that came on, Access Hollywood or whatever), and they mentioned how Jay Z & Beyonce rented some super luxury mega home shit in...Las Vegas I think? They said that it cost them 150K just to rent it out for the week.

Of course that's probably peanuts to them, but it's laughable thinking about it. 150K is a damn good yearly salary for a lot of people -- I mean I would freaking be on easy street with an income like that, yet these people are blowing that on a one week house rental

This shit was over the top retarded too as you might imagine. Shit had waterfalls and crazy shit like that all over the property

That's what's so insane about those Beverly Hills properties. They like start at frigging 10 million, and yet you're still close enough to talk to your neighbor from you patio if they're on their patio.

Its crazy to think of peoples range of income.

I mean it goes from 20 grand a year to a billion a year. Some "only" make a million or so a year, some ten mill, some 100 million, etc. etc.

Ive seen million dollar house on Love It Or List It and they were not even that amazing. Like they were nice, but it was no mansion. Location has a lot to do with as well as the land the property has and of course all the sq footage too.

Oh yeah man, it's pretty wild. Like we look at these actors and shit as super rich motherfuckers, and they are, but it's all relative. Like that Indian tycoon that built that billion dollar skyscraper to use as a home...all these celeb actors/recording artists couldn't even afford a one month mortgage on that place

Yup. Location, location, location.

Look at this shit. 700 grand. You don't even get a bedroom. It's just a studio. Doesn't even list the square feet because it's probably like 500. Or shit, less. And look at it -- it looks like the damn projects.

But hey it's Manhattan.

Money ain't worth shit these days

This is all insanity. I mean, people should be free to spend their money on whatever they want, and if they want to buy absolute insanity then they should feel free to pay for it. But this is just crazy. No one needs something like that. That's a god damn castle. No one needs a castle. Not even silicon valley CEOs live in houses like that.

In fact, most actual rich people would never be caught dead in a house like that. This just screams "I have no idea how to handle being rich." This is just a thing for people who suddenly came into waaay too much money, and who are too stupid to do anything useful with it.

Most actual rich people (both multigenerational wealth and those who were successful entrepreneurs and business people etc.) live in very ordinary normal looking houses in normal looking neighborhoods (although obviously very upscale houses in unbelievably excellent neighborhoods). They don't have this need to shout "LOOK AT ME I HAVE MONEY LOOK AT ALL MY MONEY," in fact there is nothing that actual rich people hate more than that.

Real rich people go through great lengths to look just like everyone else. They buy all the nicest things of course, but they take care to make sure these things blend in. This is why high end cars look so similar to medium price cars.

This kind of stuff is just for stupid people who happen to have suddenly come into entirely too much money (eg actors/actresses, sports players, etc).

You don't just give your money away like that unless you're Forest Gump-level stupid.  You set up charities, you give research grants to fight disease, you create jobs for the people who need shit instead of just irresponsibly, and retardedly, just handing them cash.

I would never just give away money to people if I had it.  I'd use my resources to give people a chance to succeed on their own.

That house doesn't even look nice from the outside, it just looks like a giant university or apartment complex.

I prefer more modern-art type houses. I prefer the very sleek, high-tech type of look. Some people say it looks cold and sterile like a museum, but I like that really clean look.

That's actually average for Manhattan. And that is actually a nice apartment for the price. I've seen apartments that are the size of a closet, and old as shit, not even renovated go for over $1 million in Midtown Manhattan.

Yeah I do dig the modern/minimalist style -- although sometimes they can go overboard with it. When a home starts beating you over the head with how modern it is then it's too much.

This right here is a style I really dig.

http://www.zillow.com/homes/for_sale/Los-Angeles-CA/20523784_zpid/12447_rid/priced_sort/34.474863,-117.971879,33.565428,-118.850785_rect/9_zm/3_p/0_mmm/?3col=true

Built in 1954 but completely renovated. Got a photo gallery if you click on the photo in the link. But yeah I have no idea why I'm scouring homes like that...when I should realistically be looking at places like this

San Francisco has a whole host of them. Like this one.

http://www.zillow.com/homes/for_sale/San-Francisco-CA/15135015_zpid/20330_rid/500000-_price/1741-_mp/38.034571,-122.225991,37.601176,-122.665444_rect/10_zm/2_p/0_mmm/?3col=true

2 bedrooms. 1,700 square feet.

Cost? $1.5 million dollars. Yikes.

In close in suburban and urban markets, the the size of the property is more important to the price than the size of the house.

In the area I live, there are older houses that sell for nearly a million dollars, and they immediately tear down the house. Sometimes they divide the lot and put up two houses. This has happened so many times that people in the neighborhood sued the county to prevent further sub dividing of lots.

There's a large orthodox synagogue at the top of the street, and there is a lot of demand for homes that are within walking distance since Orthodox Jews aren't supposed to drive on the sabbath.

What do you guys think of McMansions?

I think they're sickening. They're customized out of catalogue magazines and they're made of cheap Chinese materials and chip board.

Theres like billions of them popping up all over the US, and they're themed, like all the houses in a gated neighborhood have a common trait. Baby boomer American mom's buy them thinking they're great! It's a mansion at a fraction of the price for a real mansion. My friends mom literally bought 2 of em, identical, next to eachother. Similar to the pic below.

Old Tudor style homes are fucking awesome. Anything over 2500 sq ft is over kill for 2 people (IMHO)

There's an area called an eruv where certain rules are relaxed for Orthodox Jews. Property within this area are in high demand. This is an article about my neighborhood

I prefer McMansions over really old houses. Older buildings that haven't been updated tend to collect a lot more dust, I've noticed.

But you're right, one thing I don't like about McMansions is how thin the walls are and how loudly sound echoes through the home, because the materials they use are so cheap.

Idk if it's been said already, but this makes me think of  model homes in arrested development.
