The right silicone for the job...
    #23505614 - 08/03/16 01:07 PM (7 years, 5 months ago)

Hello all, I was wondering if this silicone is usable for my jar kids. Thanks for the answers!

RTV silicon is what you want.

I understand RTV silicone is what most people swear by, but that didn't answer my question. This silicone would be fine to use if I knew it was heat resistant. I guess I'll rephrase my question. Does anyone know if DAP is heat resistant enough to go through a pressure cooker.

All silicone can survive a PC cycle once dried. I usually just get the cheapest shit.

Thank You! Haha. I work in construction and used to use this stuff all the time. I had some extra and I can't find RTV silicone anywhere, so I was hoping this would work. According to pasty my lid tek is ultra out of date some I'm making some new ones.

Yeah you were using a lid with a hole in it, and foil over the top of the hole, weren't you?  The silicone you have there will work fine.  Remember to scratch up/sand the lid to create a good surface to adhere to.

I use instant high temp gasket (auto grade). Don't even wait for it to fully dry as it dries in the PC during a cycle

I sure was. Haha. It kind of sucks. I have about 30 jars with poor lids on them. I mean I've always used this tel with success, but it's disturbing to me knowing that my life could have been prepped better.

if it's for any inoculation point, buy gasket silicone from an auto part store. does dap self/heal after piercing?

besides gasket grade silicone is intended to take high temp/pressure/humidity. dap don't know although it clearly says weather proof. and a small tube may cost $3-$4.

Except I bet you he could read on that exact tube of silicone the temps it can withstand once cured.  If you don't know, why are you answering?

I read the tube before I even made this post. It does not say anywhere on it what the threshold would be.

Just search google for dap clear silicone specification sheet
One I see says -40 to 400F, which is 204C. Most silicone spec sheets I ever saw were past 200C.
