Truffles in Blue Ridge Mtns?

Was doing some work up in the mtns and accidently dug up something that immediately reminded me of a black truffle, so I picked it up and noticed that it was a part of a cut root, with what looks like a black round fruiting body with a whitish center.
I found this growing from a root system, under an old pile of muddy soily river rocks with Oak trees and an English walnut tree 20 ft. Away, the smell has a mild earthy smell, its black as a piece of coal and hardish on the outside and softish on the inside. I have never found a truffle before so just want to see what the community has to say. Thanks for any help.

could that just be some sort of root with some sort of normal nodule and simply infected with Armillaria mycelium? isn't Armillaria mycelium protected by a black sheath (at times? all the time?)?
granted, i've seen a lot of tree roots of all sizes and haven't specifically noticed a nodule like that, except the smaller versions on the roots of annual legumes.

The spore print is black. Also, the top kinda looks like elephant skin texture (bumpyish)

You say the spore print is black? How did you get the print? Truffle spores are not forcibly discharged from the fruit. They rely on animals eating them to disperse the spores. So if it left a spore print, it's not a truffle.
A picture of it cut in half might help. Truffles will have marbled flesh.
