Spraying your cakes! (Also, Lighting)

I know for a fact that this has been covered before. I just browsed for a few minites looking for the correct information.. I'm at work all the time. I want to make sure things are getting done right with what little time I do have.
Two questions: 1. How do you KNOW when it's time to spray your cakes? I don't want to spray before they they need it and screw up the pinning process.
2. How much is too much when spraying? I've been giving each of the cakes a couple sprays until the water is slightly visible. Turning the cakes to make sure they're evenly sprayed.
I also wanted to add that I have my light set to turn on from 12 midnight until 7am. Is that sufficient enough for proper lighting?
Soo glad this community exists. Lots of helpful people frequenting these message boards. Thanks in advance people..

Just mist till they glisten. Dont let them dry out. 12 hours of indirect light is best. Take care in what your using to mist. You dont wanna go beating your cakes up all blue. Check this out. It'll be like baby fingers on your cakes and wicked cheap. http://www.homedepot.com/p/RL-Flo-Master-4-pt-Hand-Sprayer-56HD/100164531

Spraying cakes is totally fine. Mycelium is very resillient, they can handle a lot of water thrown at them.
Fruits however, are more sensitive to water drops. They can be "burned" by water dropplets, so its best to lightly mist fruits.
But mycelium, let it rip! Thats why dunking cakes doesnt hurt them, mycelium loves drinking water.

Awesome.. thanks for the replies.
They're not within range of any natural sunlight. I have one of those sunlight emitting type bulbs hung directly above the terrarium. Might shine through the holes on the top a bit, but also light gets in through the sides.
