Edibility/freshness question p. subaeruginosa
    #23504574 - 08/03/16 06:49 AM (7 years, 5 months ago)

Hi, I've found these subs yesterday and they were all very black. It is only my second time finding this species so this is kinda of a learning curve question.. Is this discoloration because of moisture (heavy rain fall) or is it a form of mold? Pics of when they were freshly found and 2 pics after 1 day in a drying box.

note: there is one non-sub in the image above

I would also chuck those. If you are absolutely dead set on using them, boil them in a tea to kill all the bacteria that are no doubt growing in those

or only use the parts that are still mostly normal, dried mushroom colored and use the dr's script of boiling to make a tea.

ETA: you've got quite a few stems and a few pieces of caps that are still mostly decent colored, but not much.

I'd start with smelling them. If there is bacteria, you should be able to smell it.

They smelled mushroomy but the smell was stronger than normal. No off smell though. I'll get the best pieces out and keep the rest and decide later to chuck em or try the tea. Thanks:thumbup:
