Brf wet/dark spots at inoculation point, no growth, no germination.
    #23502966 - 08/02/16 06:50 PM (7 years, 5 months ago)

The pics above are of 2 sets of 5 brf jars that I inoculated 5 days ago for the first set and 4 days ago for the second.  There are wet/dark spots at the inoculation points that appeared on day 2, there has been no visible mycelium growth.  My questions is are these jars still good, are those wet spots contaminants or mycelium growing?  The jar glass does not appear to have much moisture on them, just the substrate seems to be wet.  I steam sterilized for 2 hrs, which I understand from reading other posts that I may have dried out the substrate. The spores came from a sponsor and I really want to believe the problem wasn't with the syringe but my own mistake.  I have been researching the forums for a couple days looking for an answer and I have not found a clear response to this problem.  Many of the previous questions have had the pictures and responses deleted by the poster.  So I would greatly appreciate the advice of anyone who has experienced this before.  BTW I am a newbie and this is my first attempt. I can gladly provide more info and thanks everyone.

Let's give it some time for now. I am not sure what is there without a good HD pic or some some time.

Give it time.
I had inoculation spotting in my last jars and they are fruiting just fine right now.
I was also concerned and tried searching with no avail. Eventually the myc covered the spots.
I have no idea why they were there. I just chalked it up to dirty syringe as my steril technique is complete garbage when making syringes. Although I have also had jars with no spotting.
I can't see your picture but what color is the spotting? Mine was like a rusty orangish hue compared to the brf mixture.

Edit
Just saw your pictures.
Your jars will benefit from a little gas exchange. If you have a dry verm layer, try taking the tape off those holes..

Thanks guys, I thought waiting it out was the right call but I'm a noob and I'm very excited and anxious. Just gonna keep an eye on them for now.

I had micro pore tape on at first but I took it off after a few days.

Thanks again for the replies.

Take the take off and then pick up a jar and throw it up in the air. You can have that kind of confidence that a properly prepared jar will not contam even if juggled. That is why (1 of many many reasons) pf tek is so amazing.

Above are better pics of my jars.  Now at the end of day 7 since inoculation the wet/dark spots have grown even more, still no myc. I removed the tape that I had inoculated through and gave the jars a good sniff.  Unfortunately my first impression of the smell reminded me of rancid beef.  So I am thinking I messed up and the jars are bad.  I have more spores, jars, verm and brf ready to go and want to start more jars but don't want to leave the other jars around if they are contaminated.  Should they stay or should they go?

ew yeah, if it smells like rancid beef, then something it wrong...

my first impression of the pics was that the darker spots couldve just been moiture from the spore solution making it look darker from simply being wet. but something else is going on here, if they smell like rancid beef. :puke:
