Red cap Yellow Spongy Gills
    #23502509 - 08/02/16 04:36 PM (7 years, 5 months ago)

Habitat:
Mushroom was found in Mississippi in a privet thicket (the shrub is a running type shrub but not indigenous so...?) the ground was mostly covered in pine straw but not entirely.

Gills:
yellow spongy texture with black/purple spores. White meat inside that bruised blue. Gills also bruised very blue when pinched

Stem:
solid stem with reddish hue around 1/4-1/2" diameter

Cap:
ranged in size from 1.5" to 4" conical shape but fully opened to a convex shape

Spore print color:
Black/Purple

Bruising:
RICH blue

Other information:
Grew individually or in pairs. In the pictures you can see some indication of the spore print color along the top of some of the pairs.

Again these were found in Central Mississippi, but the thicket of trees is not indigenous so I'm uncertain if this fungus will or will not be an indigenous species. I put the color as red but it may be more of a red/orange and seems to have almost yellow striations throughout the cap and stem.

Please help me ID this safely and with certainty as I have never come across this species. I have seen several very similar but never any that bruise blue with this much intensity.

i've eaten some yellow pored blue staining mushrooms FKA boletes, but they were super slimy, blackened  (totally blued) things once sauteed.  maybe i did it wrong.

and i think caution is warranted before giving any sort of encouragement about eating them.
