So I just transferred my cakes into a SGFC after dunking for 24 hours and then rolling. This was doen a week after full colonization.
They are now resting under a 6500k 100w equivalent CFL bulb on a 12/12 timer. The RH has climbed to 99% since taking these photos.

Just in case the pics don't work, here's a link to them: first grow

Yeah that digi will be trash in a day or two. Had one just like it. But your setup looks perfect. Mist and fan 2-3 times daily and you will have pins within a week.

Thanks for the feedback, guys! Sounds like I wasted $8
Can anyone recommend a nice, cheap analog thermometer/hygrometer?
Probably just gonna snag this bad boy.

Did some checking on RR's posts about hygrometers; analog or digital hygrometers can both suck, the cheap ones usually crap out over ~75% humidity, if buying analog it's better to go with human hair over synthetic hair. RR also mentioned the quality has declined so much over the last few years (this post was from ~5 years ago), he stopped using them altogether.
RR mentioning declining quality, https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/13846612#13846612
RR recommending Fischer human hair analog hygrometer, https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17080422
Link to Fischer human hair hygrometer, per RR's recommendation, https://www.amazon.com/Ambient-Weather-118-01-Instruments-Thermometer/dp/B00NETMJ12/
Here is some advice from before he stopped using them, https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/6853176#6853176
Hope this helps!

Hydrometer will do nothing but confuse you. You want fluctuations. You don't want constant 99% humidity. We look to the mushrooms to show us what conditions they lack, not measurement devices.

Digi died so I ended up getting a lab grade analog from a friend that works in the field. Nonetheless, things are happening!

Love the part where you ignore everybody about the hygrometer Your mushrooms will tell you more than it ever will, and if you learn to listen to them you'll be better than somebody who relies on technology

You're right I should have turned down the free lab grade hygrometer. It's also a given that because I use measuring equipment I also outright ignore any signals shown to me by the fruits themselves.
Seriously tho, the shit isn't so black and white. People want to polarize their opinions on seemingly everything. My stance is, why not use both?

Try not to think and just listen if you're asking for advice on a basic set up.
Your set up lacks monotubs, could use some
I bet you have poured agar plates ready to take clones

As far as I can tell this advice was: "swear off measuring equipment and listen to your shrooms even tho it's your first time and you have zero experience and wouldn't know what to look for even if you wanted to."
Did I miss something?

because the hygrometer is pointless. its not going to tell you anything useful, at all.
your attitude is pretty poor. take a second to remember that some of the people giving you advice have extensive experience. we aren't throwing pie in the sky ideas at you. this shit is standard practice. hygrometers are pointless.

So a couple of vets talk condescendingly to a noob and I'm the one with a poor attitude. Take a look at the thread progression and take note of when my attitude changed.
Everyone has to be right, I guess. I'll just keep sticking with the tried and true advice of the experts.

nobody is talking condescendingly. I've read every post in this thread. me thinks you need to learn how to accept constructive criticism. you're the noob, yet you know better than the people you are asking advice from. seems... like an exercise in futility. you asked for advice, we gave it to you, you ignored it, we pointed that out, now you are giving us this shitty attitude. grow up, man. we aren't getting paid to help you, ya know.

We may be rough around the edges but only because how many failures we've all had.
Everyone is sincerely trying to help you.
You saying ` i got a new hygrometer` ` it was free, come on'
Were saying more like, our advice is free, and more valuable than a trinket from china.
Youve already got pins so many of us are past the point of initial one time success and know that consistancy doesnt come from having the right item but knowledge

What you missed is that despite you not knowing what to look for, your hygrometer doesn't know what to look for either. So using one gets you no further ahead because you don't know what you need.
Fact is that it almost doesn't even matter what the humidity in the chamber is. What matters is the microclimate created about a millimeter or two directly above the surface of the substrate. Your hygrometer cannot even read that. So we all rely on our eyes to see if things are good or not.
Some people have fruited in open air with killer results. Just a tray on a table. Mist when needed. The chamber is only to allow you to be able to not have to babysit them constantly.
What do you think you would have done if your hygrometer suddenly read 50% RH?
