Wet Spot bacteria or metabolites ????
    #2349948 - 02/18/04 01:51 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

Hello to all the community, I am very worried about all my jars of rye right now, I noticed yesterday after examination under strong light that all the sides of the jars show some sort of translucent gelly stuck between the grain and the glass, but it doesn`t look exactly like wet spot (I had some before, what I have now is not waterish with white ridges but absolutely translucent gelly and the mycelium is growing normally exept of that). all my ten jars have this , they range from 8 days to 15 days and are all close to full colonization. I read somewhere that mushrooms sometimes produce metabolites that can be confounded with contamination. is it the case ? thanks for all help, Pedro

I get this with millet as well. Usually it is a sign of excess moisture. The mycelium penetrates these areas lastly, which means that they have a high oppurtunity to support bacterial growth if any bacterial contaminant is present. So keep an eye on them.
