The Rio Olympics...lol.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Just days ahead of the Olympic Games the waterways of Rio de Janeiro are as filthy as ever, contaminated with raw human sewage teeming with dangerous viruses and bacteria, according to a 16-month-long study commissioned by The Associated Press.
Not only are some 1,400 athletes at risk of getting violently ill in water competitions, but the AP's tests indicate that tourists also face potentially serious health risks on the golden beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana.
The AP's survey of the aquatic Olympic and Paralympic venues has revealed consistent and dangerously high levels of viruses from the pollution, a major black eye on Rio's Olympic project that has set off alarm bells among sailors, rowers and open-water swimmers.
The first results of the study published over a year ago showed viral levels at up to 1.7 million times what would be considered worrisome in the United States or Europe.

With all the money being thrown away, I dont understand why they dont they figure out a way to sanitize the water for the pools? Is it really that hard to boil the water in a huge vat then chemically treat it with chlorine? Am I completely off base here?

A) Rio was only chosen because of internal corruption B) The 2016 olympics should be pushed a year back to a location worthy of the world's greatest athletes.

What a shithole of a city. Of course they would pick that city. It's what the elites are into: ugliness and destruction. They get off on it.

When there were headlines about this last summer, some athletes were already training
One of them said he was building his immune system, so when other athletes come to compete, he'll have a head start. They had already been sick.

isnt rio like filled witrh slummy ghettos and massive poverty and crime?
thats like a great place to have the Olympics. love it best idea wow.
cause its not like they can um..... you know approprate the funds being burned into the olympics back into thier own people. that'd be a horrible idea. instead lets have an event that draws global attention to our shit hole and then once all the fire light dies out, lets TOTALLY maintian the areas we built specifically for the events. yep totally gonna happen.
love it this is gonna be a show,

Sounds like it only applies to "open water" sports.
It should be easy to maintain/sterilize an indoor pool. I feel like criticisms are normal for Olympic venues. They need to be held in a major city to accommodate the people, and most major cities have at least a small area with high crime and low SES. I seem to recall people complaining about the Olympics in China and Russia as well.
At least there's no time delay these games.

Yeah, so Only 1400 athletes will be exposed to extremely toxic conditions.
There is a bright side after all
I honestly don't sympathize with the athletes at all, if one is foolish enough to expose themselves to such conditions, they've earned the consequences.
