Fool proof ways of fruiting rye spawn bags?
    #23498875 - 08/01/16 04:11 PM (7 years, 5 months ago)

I'm new to spawn bags. I've always used to use jars before.  Now, I've got rye spawn bags that are almost fully colonized. I'm somewhat afraid of contamination when I mix these to coir/verm bulk because it's happened before.

I was reading online that some people fruit with these bags... in vitro?  That sound like a fool proof way of not dealing with contamination and a monotub. But, I thought rye spawn wouldn't fruit on its own without a casing or bulk substrate like a PF cake would do.

Are there any good teks that show more fool proof alternatives to fruiting mushrooms using spawn bags?  I don't mind if yield is less. I rather have some mushrooms than no mushrooms at all.  Mostly, I want to learn and just need guidance as to what I could do with these colonized bags of spawn and not have them be wasted due to contams. Unfortunately I live in an apartment that's not the cleanest (roommates are gross) so that's why I'm being cautious.

Nope, but I can for the future bags!  What are my options then? Any guidance/links I should read?

you dont want to PC rye and coir together. I ask because I saw your other post. I dont really know how to answer your question. I think your worrying about things you shouldnt. If your spawn is clean and your coir PC properly that'll have been the fail proof way too spawn.

Or if your bag has a Gas Exchange (GE) patch and enough air in the bags you can fruit in the bag.

Honestly I thought my spawn was clean. I had 14 spawn jars and not a single one showed contamination of any kind whatsoever. I thought all was swell.  But then the green mold got me freaked out.

Now, I have bags that I made using g2g from the previous spawn jars and I was wondering what my options were.

It does have a filter patch. How could I fruit in the bag? I have several bags, so I'd love to experiment with one of them in that fashion!

I dont know why your last tub got trich (green mold/green forest mold) it could be for a lot of reasons. Its almost always due to incorrect sterile technique.

Just put into fruiting temperature. Again their has too be air in the bag or it'll stall out and not grow :mad2:

Neither fruiting not spawning are sterile processes. Introduction of FAE will not hurt the spawn run, in fact people lately have taken to doing the spawn run in fruiting conditions. While that would be a horrible practice for a species like Hericium, for cubes it won't hurt a thing.

You gotta read more man. Thats probably why I'm the only one answering your question.

There's a thread in my journal called neglect Invitro bags or similar.

Aero posted a few bag grows, in his recent main threads.

But if you have just a little more effort make monotubs, look up large_dose's threads regarding monotubs. (User search>main threads>sort by views> profit)
Very clear, easy and not very much more expensive than growing only in bags which aren't the best, even though I like them novelly.

I read a lot but you can't read everything as a lurker.

You know what's funny is that I joined shroomery just to be able to view large_dose's threads.  You can't until your account is a certain age and has a certain # of posts. I just got the access to it whereas to before I was always led to it and couldn't because I didn't have an account. (it looks amazing: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/8231041/fpart/all/vc/1)

I'm now pumped to stick to the monotub. I'll check out your neglect invitro bags and aeros for education as well! Thanks for everything!

Sweet. His way is pretty neglect, he has fruiting with spawning with a casing.

Using that method I've had several tubs be neglect from spawning until harvest about two weeks later. Over 4 oz off each tub and that's not really amazing either but for <$6 in cost per tub.

Works great relative to effort.

Good luck
