First monotub became green, is it cause it's too hot?

I mixed rye grain spawn with damionteks coir/verm.
The room temp has been above 80F during the entire process (no A/C and it's summer).
The spawn looked like it was colonizing nice and fast in the beginning but then the surface of the bulk became ALL green AND looks extremely wet now.
I'm trying to understand why this happened. I followed damiontek's instructions and the spawn jars were clean. But it was definitely too hot. Do you think it was from the heat? I have 20lbs of colonized grain that I could spawn to bulk with soon, but I don't want to deal with the green mold and am trying to understand why this happened. Thanks.

That's too hot but the problem is likely with your spawn and not the coir.

This is unfortunate to hear that it could be my spawn. I didn't know spawn could be contaminated if they're fully colonized.
They looked absolutely perfectly white and colonized in their jars completely before I did this. I have many pounds of rye that are currently nearly complete colonization (they were colonized using g2g from the previous batch). They seem to be growing perfectly.
I was guessing that the hot temps caused the mycelium in the monotub to slow growth and it was maybe more optimal for the green mold instead.

Well unfortunately when using coir, contaminations are from spawn. If heat and water made coir mold, all the reptile owners would sue the coir companies because their reptiles are having problems with mold. Reptiles and mold don't go well together. These reptiles piss and shit on it with a heat lamp on it too.

Sometimes it's hard to spot contamination. You will be able to eventually. It's usually gonna look really thick and white. Like ice cream.

One of the jars looked like there was so much mycelium that it resembled a scoop of ice cream. Just to clarify, are you saying that that was possibly a sign of contamination or you mean that's how it should normally look?

I would suggest using agar next time, especially if your going to be doing 20 lbs. of grain.

I've made liquid cultures and mycelium water and used spore syringes and done g2g, but still haven't touched the realm of agar. To be frank, the thought of using agar is intimidating to me, because I don't even know what it is and I always tell myself "oh they're talking about agar, that stuff is beyond me, a bit too technical, probably." (Because in my head I picture petri dishes and all this equipment and probably another scenario where I have to keep things sterile but maybe fuck up once more, I guess.

agar is just as easy to do as LC. It's the exact same thing really. Whatever your recipe was, you can just add 2g of agar for every 100 ml.

Don't think or persuade yourself into thinking agar is way beyond your league. It's probably the best thing you can do for yourself...to learn. If you can make syringes, grains and whatever else, you certainly can make agar in a dish or whatever you have. Have some confidence and use you're intelligence. You got this mang.
