Thats a good idea. I will have to do a bit more research and then setup a test.

Here is the first sample after 6.5 days, and the new sample after 1.5 days.

No patching, in the first sample, Strong new sample.
----
Growth speed, strength and thickness are greater with the pet pellets added. However one issue is that the pellets smell of food from the start.
Hopefully the smell will go when fully colonized. It is most likely a brand recipe thing.
----
Nutrient variation working well.

Here is a comparison, both 1.5 days, left no pet pellets, right with.

As you can see with pet pellets is a bit stronger.

Here is the first sample after 7.5 days, and the new sample after 2.5 days.

Nice healthy growth on both samples, strong, thick and fast.
----
Average house temperature has dropped to 22°C. No notable difference in speed so far.

Here is the first sample after 8.5 days, and the new sample after 3.5 days.

Slower at 22°C, but not too much of an issue.
----
I cannot fully compare now due to temperature change. However I will note time scale before fruiting.
Regardless, WL Tek passes for King's. Everything is eaten as expected.

Here is the first sample after 9.5 days, and the new sample after 4.5 days.

The first sample now nearly finished, very thick and healthy. No contamination, using open air assembly for both.
No signs of issues on the second sample. Both growing in 24 hour dark.

Here is the first sample after 10.5 days, and the new sample after 5.5 days.

The first sample needs about another day or two to finish. The second sample still appears clean, no issues.

The first sample now complete, I am leaving it for 4-6 days. The second sample is still clean and growing well.
15mm a day @ 24°C, 12mm a day @ 22°C.

Probiotic, sample 2, after 8.5 days.

No competing, damage or smell, however.
Inhibited growth due to 3rd party consumption of essential nutrients. In short, the substrate is turning to just paper and water.
Use pet pellets with no added yeast or probiotics.
----
End of sample 2 test.

Here is the first sample fully grown, and mature. A creepy 'J' has appeared.

I've added it to a bag, with water in the second tub.

Ok so its too hot here at the moment, and I can only go from 26-28°C to 20°C. So I have put it in the fridge untill the weather suits requirements.
----
I left the probiotic sample 2 to grow fully. It stayed clean, no smell. No metabolites, fully symbiotic. Only loss of micro nutrients.

It is now a garden paper cake.

Any particular reason you have a colonized cake sitting on the ground outside?

Wow, awesome study Feather, thanks for the info!
And yeah I think Marty's idea to try to induce blotch and monitor differences would make for a good, if painful, study as well.
Keep up the good work!

No reason other than to dispose of it, and to show it cakes. Some people may be interested in a fruiting cake.
You can also see its clean and not wet.
----
My only issue with the blotch study is I would need to make an isolated grow. Unless I colonize indoors, add a casing with blotch and fruit outside.
Not sure yet, suggestions?

Interestingly the King oyster has got thicker in the fridge.

Most likely a cold chemical breakdown.

Pardon me if I am incorrect but don't Kings need cooler temperatures? I believe Gr0wer has basically a big fridge for them.
